Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this a sauna robe rather than a regular bathrobe?

The demands are different. A bathrobe absorbs once, after a shower, then goes on a hook. A sauna robe gets pulled on and off three or four times in a single session, each time over skin that's either soaked in sweat or dripping from a plunge, and it has to keep pulling water through every cycle. That's a job for dense zero-twist terry, and it's why we stock this one.

What's the difference between this and the plain Turkish Cotton Robe?

Same 100% zero-twist Turkish cotton and the same absorbency. This one adds rolled-back cuffed sleeves and contrast piping along the edges. The cuffs are the functional upgrade — they keep sleeve ends off your wrists and forearms, which is where a robe soaks first when you're reaching for a ladle or a towel. The piping is the visual one, and it's more useful than it sounds when several robes share a hook.

What is it made of?

100% cotton, woven in Turkey, in a zero-twist construction.

What does "zero-twist" cotton mean and why does it matter here?

Cotton yarn is normally twisted tightly during spinning because twist adds strength — it also flattens the fiber and closes off its surface. Zero-twist leaves the fibers largely untwisted, exposing far more surface area to your skin, which means faster absorption per second of contact. In a bathroom that's a pleasant detail. Between sauna rounds, when you have four minutes to shed sweat before you go back in, it's the difference between a robe that's working and one that's just draped on you.

Where is it made?

Made in Turkey.

What are the rolled-back cuffed sleeves for?

Two things. They keep the sleeve ends clear of your wrists, so the cuffs don't wick water up the arm every time you towel off or reach for something. And they let you adjust effective sleeve length without alteration — rolled back for a shorter, cleaner line, unrolled for full coverage on a cold walk out to an outdoor cabin.

What colors does the piping come in?

Linen, Light Blue, Grey, and Navy. The robe body stays white in every option — the color name refers to the contrast piping running along the collar, cuffs, and edges.

Is the piping just decorative?

Mostly, but not entirely. In a household or a facility where several identical white robes hang side by side in a dim changing area, contrast piping is the fastest way to tell one from another at a glance. Commercial clients often use it to color-code sizes — one piping color for S/M, another for L/XL — so guests can grab the right robe without checking a label.

What sizes does it come in?

Two sizes: S/M and L/XL.

How do the sizes fit?

S/M fits US women's dress sizes 2–8. L/XL fits US women's dress sizes 10–14. Both share the same overall length, so the difference is width through the chest and sleeve length, not how far the robe hangs.

What are the exact measurements?

S/M — overall length 47.24", chest width 21.25", sleeve length 22.63". L/XL — overall length 47.24", chest width 26.37", sleeve length 24.01". Both sizes share the same pocket at 8"W x 9"D and the same belt at 75"L x 1.5"W.

Which size should I order?

Size up if you're between. For sauna use specifically, the extra chest width in the L/XL matters more than it would for a bathroom robe — you want it to wrap and close over a wet body quickly without fighting it, and you may be pulling it on over a swimsuit.

Is this a men's or women's robe?

Kassatex sizes it to US women's dress sizes, so the size guide is written for women, but the cut is a classic unisex wrap and it's photographed on both men and women. Men should reference the chest width measurements rather than the dress-size column.

Can I wear it inside the sauna?

No. Never wear a robe inside a heated sauna room. Fabric traps heat against the skin and blocks the evaporative cooling your body depends on at high temperature — it raises your core temperature faster than it should and removes your ability to feel how hot you actually are. The robe comes off at the door and goes back on when you step out.

Can I wear it into a steam room?

No, for the same reason, and there's a second problem: saturated steam soaks heavy terry within minutes, leaving you carrying a wet, hot weight around your shoulders. Hang it outside the steam room and put it on during the cool-down.

What about wearing it into the cold plunge?

No. Immersing terry defeats its purpose — you want the robe dry and waiting so it can pull water off you the moment you come out. A soaked robe going onto cold skin makes the rewarming phase worse, not better.

So when do I actually wear it?

Three moments. Walking to the sauna, so you arrive warm rather than pre-chilled. Between rounds, when you're cooling down and shedding sweat. And after the final round, through the whole rewarming stretch until your body settles. Off at the threshold, on the moment you exit.

Why does wearing a robe between rounds matter?

Because the cool-down is where a session succeeds or fails. Stand around in a wet towel and you drop temperature too fast and too unevenly — you get chilled instead of cooled, and the next round starts from a worse place. A dry terry robe pulls sweat off while letting heat leave at a controlled rate. It makes the second and third rounds better than the first.

Does it help after a cold plunge?

Significantly. After cold immersion, evaporating water on your skin keeps stealing heat long after you're out of the tub, which is why people shiver for far longer than they expect. Getting that water off fast is the single highest-leverage thing you can do, and a zero-twist terry robe does it faster than a standard robe of similar weight.

Should I towel off first or just put the robe on?

Robe straight on, if you're moving between rounds. Speed matters more than thoroughness there, and the robe will do the toweling for you while you sit. After the final round, when you're getting dressed, towel first and let the robe handle the rest.

Does it have pockets?

Yes — patch pockets measuring 8"W x 9"D, deep enough for a phone or keys on the walk out to an outdoor cabin.

Does it come with a belt?

Yes, a matching self-tie belt measuring 75" long by 1.5" wide, running through belt loops so it stays put through repeated on-and-off cycles.

Does it have a hanger loop?

Yes, sewn in. That matters more for sauna use than it does in a bathroom — a robe that hangs fully open on a hook dries properly between rounds, and a sewn-in loop means you can hang it anywhere without a hanger.

Does it have a hood?

No. This is a shawl-collar wrap robe with no hood.

How many robes should I have for one person?

Two, if you use your sauna more than twice a week. A terry robe that's absorbed three rounds of sweat needs a full dry cycle before it's pleasant again, and rotating two means you're never pulling on a damp one.

How many for a couple?

Two minimum, four if you're both regular users. Sharing one robe in a two-person sauna household means one of you is always second in line for a wet garment. This is also where the piping earns its place — order two different colorways and there's never a question whose is whose.

Should I keep a separate robe at the plunge?

If your sauna and plunge are more than a few steps apart, yes. Contrast therapy means repeated transitions, and a robe already damp from the sauna side is doing half a job by the time it reaches the cold side.

How do I dry it between sessions?

Hang it fully open on the sewn-in loop with airflow on both sides — not folded over a bench and not crumpled on a rail. Terry that dries folded stays damp in the creases, and that's where odor starts.

Will it get musty from repeated sauna use?

Only if it never fully dries. Sweat and warm damp cotton left in a closed sauna room or a gym bag is exactly the condition mildew wants. Hang it open in ventilated air after every session and wash it regularly and it stays fresh. Never store a used robe inside the sauna cabin itself.

How often should I wash it with heavy sauna use?

More often than a bathroom robe — this one absorbs sweat, not just shower water. Every few sessions is reasonable for regular use. Any hint of odor is the signal to wash regardless of how many uses it's had.

How do I wash it?

Machine wash cold with a gentle laundry detergent. Dry on low to medium heat. Do not bleach.

Will the piping bleed onto the white body in the wash?

Washing cold, as the care label specifies, is what protects against it. We'd suggest washing a new piped robe separately for the first cycle or two, particularly in Navy, then with like colors afterward. Never bleach it — bleach is far more likely than water temperature to damage a contrast trim.

Why shouldn't I use fabric softener?

Softener coats cotton fibers with a thin waxy residue that fills the terry loops — the exact loops doing the absorbing. On a robe you're relying on to pull sweat and plunge water off your skin, that's the one thing you can't afford to lose. Skip it entirely. If the robe ever feels stiff, run it through a wash with no detergent and no softener to strip buildup.

Should I wash it before the first session?

Yes. A first wash removes manufacturing finish residue and opens up the terry loops, which measurably improves absorbency from day one. Don't take a brand-new robe straight to the sauna and judge it.

Will it shrink?

All natural cotton relaxes slightly across the first few wash cycles. Washing cold and drying low-to-medium — exactly as the care label specifies — keeps it minimal. Hot water and high heat cause real shrinkage in cotton terry.

Can I tumble dry it?

Yes, low to medium. High heat degrades cotton fibers and is the fastest way to shorten the life of a robe you're washing frequently. Pulling it out slightly damp and finishing it on a hanger is gentler still.

Is it OEKO-TEX certified?

Yes — OEKO-TEX MADE IN GREEN, certificate M24LUGND4. Produced in environmentally responsible facilities under socially responsible working conditions, and tested against 1,000+ harmful substances.

Why does certification matter for a sauna robe specifically?

Because of when you're wearing it. Heat opens pores and raises skin permeability, and a sauna robe goes onto skin in exactly that state, repeatedly, for long stretches. A verified substance-tested textile matters more here than on a garment worn over dry skin.

What's the difference between MADE IN GREEN and STANDARD 100?

STANDARD 100 tests the finished textile for harmful substances. MADE IN GREEN includes that same testing and adds verification of the production facilities — environmental performance and working conditions along the supply chain. MADE IN GREEN is the broader label.

Is it too heavy for a hot climate or a summer outdoor sauna?

It's a plush terry robe built for warmth during the cool-down. That's an advantage in a cold-climate outdoor setup and more than you may want in humid summer heat. For hot climates or faster drying between rounds, look at our waffle-weave or peshtemal robes instead.

Can I add a monogram?

Yes, for an additional $10. Add it at checkout with the initials you want. Paired with the contrast piping, it's the cleanest way to keep several robes straight in a shared changing area.

Where does the monogram go?

On the chest, in Kassatex's standard robe placement. If you want a specific arrangement of initials or a particular thread color to work with your piping choice, call us at (302) 273-0861 before ordering and we'll confirm what's available.

How long does monogramming add to delivery?

Personalization adds production time on top of standard shipping. Call us at (302) 273-0861 with your date and we'll confirm current turnaround before you commit.

Can I return a monogrammed robe?

Personalized items are made to order and are not returnable. Confirm your size before adding a monogram — if you're unsure, order without personalization first.

Does it coordinate with your sauna towels?

The white body pairs with any Kassatex white towel collection, and the piping gives you a second accent color to build around. Call us and we'll confirm which lines work with your chosen piping.

Do you supply spas, hotels, gyms, and bathhouses?

Regularly. This is the robe commercial clients tend to choose — the piping reads as hotel-spa, and it doubles as a size-coding system across a property. We quote multi-unit orders and monogrammed sets carrying a property's mark. Call (302) 273-0861 or email customercare@thesaunarepublic.com with your quantity.

Is this robe HSA/FSA eligible?

No. HSA and FSA eligibility applies to qualifying wellness equipment such as saunas and cold plunges, not to apparel or textiles.

What's the return policy?

Non-personalized robes follow our standard return policy — unused and in original packaging. Monogrammed robes are final sale. Please review our return policy for full details.

How long does shipping take?

Robes ship via ground carrier and typically arrive within a few business days of leaving the warehouse. Monogrammed orders take longer. If you need it by a specific date, call us at (302) 273-0861 and we'll check lead times before you order.

Who do I call with questions?

We're available seven days a week at (302) 273-0861 or customercare@thesaunarepublic.com. Happy to talk through sizing, piping colors, monogramming, or building a full textile set for a sauna room or plunge area.

How Freight Delivery Works

Large items (saunas, cold plunges, hot tubs) ship via LTL freight. Smaller items (heaters, accessories, wellness devices, Lumaflex, red light towers, robes and textiles) ship via UPS, FedEx, or USPS.

1. We ship your order. Tracking is emailed to you with the estimated delivery timeline.

2. The carrier calls you. The freight company calls to schedule your delivery appointment. You pick the date and time window.

3. Curbside delivery. Delivery is to the curb via semi-truck with liftgate (when available). You'll need a plan to move it from the curb to its final location.

4. Sign and inspect. You must be present to sign. Inspect for damage before signing — note any issues on the delivery receipt.

Unloading Your Sauna

The driver delivers to the curb only. You are responsible for moving the product to its final location. Have equipment and help arranged before delivery day.

Rent a forklift — Most common choice. Requires forklift extensions. ~$150–300/day.

Hire a tilt tow truck — Flatbed tow with tilt/slide functionality. ~$200–400.

Hire a rigging/moving crew — Professional movers with equipment. Get quotes in advance.

Tilt tow service (Dundalk only) — Available for $750. Contact us to add to your order.

Clearlight saunas ship in flat panels, not pre-assembled crates. Most can be carried inside by two people without heavy equipment. Dundalk saunas ship in crates exceeding 92" and 800–1,600 lbs — liftgate service is not available for these shipments.

Damage Claims

If your order arrives damaged, we'll get you a replacement as quickly as possible.

1. Inspect packaging for visible damage before signing.

2. Note damage on the delivery receipt — write "damaged" and have the driver sign.

3. Take photos of packaging and product damage.

4. Email photos to info@thesaunarepublic.com with your order number within 24 hours.

5. We file the claim and ship your replacement.

Damage must be reported within 24 hours of delivery with photos. Claims filed after 24 hours may not be eligible for a free replacement. Always note visible damage on the delivery receipt — even if it seems minor.

Carriers & Address Info

We reserve the right to select the carrier for all shipments.

Small items (heaters, accessories, wellness devices, red light towers) — UPS or FedEx

Robes & textiles — FedEx Ground. Street addresses only, no PO Boxes or APO/FPO.

Large items (saunas, cold plunges, hot tubs) — LTL freight carriers

Lumaflex devices — UPS, FedEx, or USPS

Once large items ship, we cannot change addresses or schedule specific delivery dates. If an item is returned due to an incorrect address, you're responsible for shipping costs both ways. If freight delivery fails because the carrier couldn't access your property, it's treated as a return per our return policy.

Remote Areas & Special Locations

Alaska, Hawaii & Puerto Rico — Contact Us Before Purchase

Free shipping does not apply to these locations (except Lumaflex — ships free nationwide). Contact us for a custom shipping quote before ordering. Orders placed without prior approval may be cancelled.

APO/FPO addresses: We ship most items to military addresses, subject to USPS restrictions. Additional fees may apply. Robes and textiles cannot be shipped to APO/FPO or PO Box addresses.

Remote/hard-to-reach areas: Additional fees may apply. We'll contact you before shipping if your location requires special arrangements.

Description

Kassatex Turkish Cotton Piped Robe: The Cool-Down, With Cuffs That Stay Out of the Way

Between rounds, your forearms are the first thing to get wet — reaching for the ladle, toweling your face, pulling the door. On most robes that's exactly where the sleeve ends sit, wicking water up your arm all session. The Turkish Cotton Piped Robe solves it with rolled-back cuffed sleeves that keep the ends clear, wrapped in the same 100% zero-twist Turkish cotton as the rest of our Kassatex terry, finished with contrast piping along the collar, cuffs, and edges.

Zero-Twist Cotton Absorbs Faster, Which Is the Whole Job

Cotton yarn is normally twisted tightly during spinning because twist adds strength — it also flattens the fiber and closes off its surface. Zero-twist leaves the fibers largely untwisted, exposing far more surface area to your skin. The result is faster absorption per second of contact. In a bathroom that's a pleasant detail. Between rounds, when you have four minutes to shed sweat before you go back in, it's the difference between a robe that's working and one that's just draped on you.

The Cuffs Are the Upgrade

Rolled-back cuffs do two jobs. They hold the sleeve ends off your wrists, so the fabric closest to the water isn't the fabric wicking it up your arm. And they let you set effective sleeve length without alteration — rolled for a shorter, cleaner line during a session, unrolled for full coverage on a cold walk out to an outdoor cabin in February. It's a small piece of construction that changes how the robe behaves across a two-hour session.

The Cold Plunge Is Where It Earns Its Money

Water left on your skin after cold immersion keeps stealing heat long after you're out of the tub — it's why people shiver for far longer than they expect. Getting that water off fast is the highest-leverage move in the rewarming phase, and it's a pure absorbency problem. This robe is dense enough to strip a plunge off you in one pass and warm enough to hold the heat you're rebuilding. If your sauna and plunge sit more than a few steps apart, keep one at each.

Off at the Threshold, On at the Exit

Never wear it inside the heat. Fabric traps heat against the skin and blocks the evaporative cooling your body relies on at high temperature — it drives core temperature up faster than it should and takes away your ability to feel how hot you actually are. Same rule in a steam room, with the added problem that saturated steam soaks heavy terry in minutes and leaves you carrying a hot wet weight. The robe hangs outside on its sewn-in loop. You wear it walking out, between rounds, and through the rewarming stretch afterward.

Piping That Does Actual Work

The body stays white in every option; the color you choose is the piping running along the collar, cuffs, and edges — Linen, Light Blue, Grey, or Navy. In a household where several identical white robes hang side by side in a dim changing area, that contrast line is the fastest way to tell yours from everyone else's. Commercial properties take it further and color-code by size: one piping color for S/M, another for L/XL, so guests grab the right robe without hunting for a label.

Built for Repeated On-and-Off

A bathrobe absorbs once a day. This one gets pulled on and off across a two-hour session, over wet skin, every time. The shawl collar lays flat instead of standing up against a damp neck. The wrap front crosses generously so it closes fast over wet skin or a swimsuit. The 75-inch self-tie belt runs through belt loops so it stays at the waist through the cycle. Patch pockets run 8 inches wide by 9 deep — enough for a phone and keys on the walk out to an outdoor cabin. The sewn-in hanger loop means it dries fully open on any hook.

Make It Yours

Monogramming is available for $10. Paired with the piping, it's the cleanest way to keep several robes straight in a shared space. Personalized pieces are made to order and can't be returned, so settle your size first if you're unsure.

Two Sizes, One Length

S/M fits US women's dress sizes 2–8; L/XL fits 10–14. Both run 47.24" overall, so sizing up buys about 5" more chest width and slightly longer sleeves without adding length that drags. The cut is a classic unisex wrap — men should work from the chest measurement rather than the dress-size column. For sauna use the extra width matters more than it would on a bathroom robe: you want it to wrap and close quickly over wet skin.

Certified for Skin That's Wide Open

OEKO-TEX MADE IN GREEN, certificate M24LUGND4 — the broader of the two OEKO-TEX labels, covering testing against 1,000+ harmful substances plus verification of the production facilities themselves. That matters more here than on ordinary apparel. Heat raises skin permeability, and this garment goes onto skin in exactly that state, repeatedly, for long stretches.
