How Freight Delivery Works
Large items (saunas, cold plunges, hot tubs) ship via LTL freight. Smaller items (heaters, accessories, wellness devices, Lumaflex, red light towers) ship via UPS, FedEx, or USPS.
1. We ship your order. Tracking is emailed to you with the estimated delivery timeline.
2. The carrier calls you. The freight company calls to schedule your delivery appointment. You pick the date and time window.
3. Curbside delivery. Delivery is to the curb via semi-truck with liftgate (when available). You'll need a plan to move it from the curb to its final location.
4. Sign and inspect. You must be present to sign. Inspect for damage before signing — note any issues on the delivery receipt.
Unloading Your Sauna
The driver delivers to the curb only. You are responsible for moving the product to its final location. Have equipment and help arranged before delivery day.
Rent a forklift — Most common choice. Requires forklift extensions. ~$150–300/day.
Hire a tilt tow truck — Flatbed tow with tilt/slide functionality. ~$200–400.
Hire a rigging/moving crew — Professional movers with equipment. Get quotes in advance.
Tilt tow service (Dundalk only) — Available for $750. Contact us to add to your order.
Clearlight saunas ship in flat panels, not pre-assembled crates. Most can be carried inside by two people without heavy equipment. Dundalk saunas ship in crates exceeding 92" and 800–1,600 lbs — liftgate service is not available for these shipments.
Damage Claims
If your order arrives damaged, we'll get you a replacement as quickly as possible.
1. Inspect packaging for visible damage before signing.
2. Note damage on the delivery receipt — write "damaged" and have the driver sign.
3. Take photos of packaging and product damage.
4. Email photos to info@thesaunarepublic.com with your order number within 24 hours.
5. We file the claim and ship your replacement.
Damage must be reported within 24 hours of delivery with photos. Claims filed after 24 hours may not be eligible for a free replacement. Always note visible damage on the delivery receipt — even if it seems minor.

Dundalk Canadian Timber
All Sales Final — No Returns
All Dundalk products (saunas, cold plunges, accessories) are handcrafted to order in Ontario, Canada. Returns and refunds are not available. Full manufacturer warranty applies for defects.
Cancellation
Within 14 days of order — full refund, no fee.
After 14 days — $65 cancellation fee applies.
Once production begins — cannot be cancelled (typically 2+ weeks after order).
Backorder Cancellation
Orders containing backordered items are subject to a 6% cancellation fee as we are charged by our payment processor when backorders are cancelled. All lead times are estimates and subject to change.
HSA/FSA Purchases
Our standard return policy applies to all HSA/FSA purchases. Products with brand-specific exceptions follow those policies. There is no IRS requirement that HSA/FSA purchases be final sale.
HSA/FSA refunds are processed back to your original HSA/FSA card within 3–10 business days. Truemed cannot redirect refunds to a different payment method.
HSA holders: Notify your custodian to treat the original purchase as a "mistaken distribution" under IRS Notice 2004-50. Returned funds are not subject to income tax or penalties.
FSA holders: The refund goes back to your FSA plan via the original card. If your plan year has ended, the use-it-or-lose-it rule may apply. FSA holders should be especially sure of their purchase before buying.

Which Clearlight saunas is the Moveable Backrest compatible with?
The Clearlight Moveable Backrest is compatible with all Clearlight Sanctuary saunas (Sanctuary 1, 2, 3, 5, C, Y, and Retreat) and all Clearlight Outdoor saunas (Outdoor 2 and Outdoor 5). It is not compatible with the Clearlight Premier sauna line because the Premier interior rail and bench design differs from the Sanctuary and Outdoor line. It's also not applicable to the Curve Dome, Cold Plunge, or Red Light Towers. If you own a Premier sauna and want improved ergonomic support, contact Sauna Republic for alternative recommendations.
Who designed the Moveable Backrest?
The Moveable Backrest was designed by Dr. Raleigh Duncan, founder of Clearlight and a practicing chiropractic physician. Dr. Duncan built the backrest specifically to address the ergonomic shortcomings of flat sauna walls — providing proper lumbar curvature and upper-back support the way a chiropractor would recommend. Having a doctor-designed accessory in an infrared sauna accessory category is unusual and reflects Clearlight's clinical heritage.
Does it require assembly?
No. The Moveable Backrest arrives fully assembled in a single box. There are no tools, no hardware, and no setup required. Take it out of the box, place it inside your sauna, and use it immediately. Total time from unboxing to first session: about 30 seconds.
How do I position the backrest correctly?
Per Clearlight's instructions, place the backrest inside your sauna so the foot sits flat on the bench pointing toward the sauna wall, and the back of the backrest rests flat against the sauna wall. Sit back against it and adjust as needed for your own comfort. It's designed for sidewall placement on the flat interior rails, but can also be used on the back wall with some repositioning to avoid interference with any built-in backrest.
Can I use it on the back wall of my sauna?
Yes, though Clearlight recommends sidewall placement because the sidewalls are perfectly flat and provide the most stable support. Some Clearlight sauna models have a built-in backrest along the back wall — if yours does, you can still use the Moveable Backrest on the back wall, but you may need to reposition it to avoid interference. Experiment with placement during your first few sessions to find what works best for you.
Does it need to be mounted or screwed in?
No. The backrest simply leans against the sauna wall — it's held in place by gravity and the shape of the flat rails. No mounting, no hardware, no drilling. Because it's not fixed in place, you can move it anywhere you want inside the sauna or remove it entirely between sessions.
How heavy is it?
The Moveable Backrest weighs just 3 pounds. It's light enough for anyone in your household to carry in and out of the sauna, and light enough that you can comfortably reposition it during a session if needed. If multiple people use your sauna with different seating preferences, each person can simply move the backrest to their preferred spot.
Will it block my sauna's heaters, chromotherapy, or built-in backrest?
When placed against a sidewall, the Moveable Backrest sits against flat wood that doesn't contain heaters or chromotherapy elements, so there's no interference. When placed against the back wall, you may need to position it around the built-in backrest or other fixtures — check your sauna's specific interior layout. Never place the backrest directly against a heater element or in a position where it restricts airflow around the sauna heaters.
Can I leave it inside the sauna between sessions?
Yes. The Moveable Backrest is designed for continuous exposure to sauna heat and humidity, and can be left inside the sauna permanently if you want. The solid wood construction is rated for continuous sauna use without warping or degrading. Some owners prefer to remove it between sessions so the sauna interior looks cleaner, but either approach works fine.
How do I clean the backrest?
Wipe the backrest down after each use with a gentle No-VOC cleaner (Clearlight's own Sauna Cleaner is ideal). Avoid detergents, solvents, bleach, and abrasive cleaners — they can damage the wood finish. A soft cloth and a light spray of cleaner is all you need. For heavier cleaning, a slightly damp cloth works well.
How much can the backrest support?
Clearlight does not publish a specific weight rating for the backrest, but the solid wood construction is engineered to support normal leaning and sitting pressure from users of any body type. Do not stand on the backrest, use it as a step, or put concentrated force on it. It's designed to support your back while seated on the sauna bench, not to bear your full body weight.
What's the warranty?
Clearlight backs the Moveable Backrest with a 5-year warranty on both residential and commercial use — the same coverage as their sauna heaters and VRT. This is unusually strong coverage for a small accessory and reflects the quality of the solid wood construction. The warranty covers workmanship and materials for the original purchaser. Can I use it in an Outdoor Sanctuary sauna?
Yes — the Moveable Backrest is compatible with both Sanctuary Outdoor 2 and Sanctuary Outdoor 5 models. Because it's just solid wood with no electronics or moving parts, it handles outdoor sauna conditions (including the slightly different climate exposure those saunas see) without any issues.
Can I buy multiple backrests for the same sauna?
Yes. If you have a larger Sanctuary sauna (Sanctuary 3, 5, or Retreat) where multiple people sit at the same time, buying two backrests lets everyone have ergonomic support simultaneously. Sauna Republic offers volume discounts on orders of 3+ units — ask a specialist when you request your quote.
