Premium indoor sauna brands compared — Clearlight Sanctuary, Premier, Auroom, Finnmark Trinity, and SaunaLife

Clearlight Sanctuary and Premier Indoor Saunas

Full-spectrum (Sanctuary) and far-infrared (Premier) — the US infrared specialist

Clearlight is the gold standard of US infrared saunas, with two lines covering both ends of the indoor infrared spectrum. Sanctuary (6 models: 1, 2, 3, 5, C, Retreat) is the full-spectrum True Wave flagship, combining near, mid, and far-infrared with chromotherapy lighting and a lifetime residential warranty. Premier (IS-1, IS-2, IS-3) is the carbon-ceramic far-infrared series — pure far-infrared at a more accessible price point.

Clearlight Sanctuary and Premier Indoor Saunas
Strengths

- Only US brand offering both full-spectrum and far-infrared lines under one warranty umbrella

- Lifetime residential warranty on Sanctuary, 7-year on Premier

- 120V plug-in installation on most models — no electrician needed

- Lowest-EMF infrared on the US market (independently tested)

Trade-offs

- Higher price tier than budget infrared brands

- No traditional Finnish or hybrid models — infrared specialists only

Who buys it

Buyers who specifically want infrared — not a traditional Finnish experience. Sanctuary appeals to those who want full-spectrum exposure and the best warranty in the category. Premier appeals to buyers focused on far-infrared depth penetration at a tighter budget. Roughly 70% of US infrared dealer searches end at Clearlight.

Six design lines, 24 models — Estonian designer traditional Finnish

Auroom is the design-led traditional Finnish brand in the indoor catalog, covering every footprint from 1-person (Cala Mini) to 6-person (79×99 designer cabins). Libera Wood and Libera Glass share dimensional systems with wood-front or glass-front aesthetics. Familia is the classic Finnish format. Vulcana is the angular modern variant. Baia is the ergonomic 2-person specialty. Cala is the brand's US bestseller — a 1P mini plus three glass-front sizes.

Auroom Indoor Saunas
Strengths

- Six product lines means a footprint match for virtually any room

- Designer thermo-aspen and Nordic spruce — heat-treated for resin removal and odor reduction

- 5-year manufacturer warranty

- Traditional Finnish only — needs separate heater purchase and dedicated 240V circuit

- Kit-form construction (not pre-assembled) — most installs need 4–8 hours

Who buys it

Design-conscious buyers who want a traditional Finnish sauna experience with European craftsmanship. Auroom dominates the indoor mid-tier in the US market. Most popular: Cala Glass series for design-forward buyers, Familia for traditionalists, Libera Wood for designers.

Finnmark Trinity Indoor Saunas

The catalog's only infra-steam hybrid line — sauna + steam + red-light in one cabin

Finnmark Trinity is the indoor hybrid play — combining a far-infrared cabin with a built-in steam generator and red-light therapy panel in one enclosure. Two models: FD-4 Trinity (2-person, 48×48) and FD-5 Trinity XL (4-person, 75×64). Both use thermo-aspen interiors, Harvia-grade controls, and run on 120V plug-in (FD-4) or 240V (FD-5 XL).

Finnmark Trinity Indoor Saunas
Strengths

- Three modalities in one cabin (infrared + steam + red-light)

- 120V plug-in for FD-4 — easiest install in the hybrid category

- 5-year warranty on cabin, 3-year on electronics

Trade-offs

- Highest price-per-square-foot in the indoor catalog

- Steam component adds humidity — needs ventilation planning

Who buys it

Buyers who want the full wellness stack but only have space for one cabin. Often replaces a separate sauna + steam shower build. 2-person typical buyer is recovery-focused; 4-person is family use.

SaunaLife's Model X2 is the brand's indoor entry — a 2-person Nordic spruce traditional Finnish sauna with glass front. It's positioned below Auroom Libera in price but uses the same Finnish kit-form construction. The only SaunaLife indoor model in the catalog (SaunaLife focuses on outdoor barrels and cube cabins).

SaunaLife Indoor Saunas
Strengths

- 5-year warranty

- Single SKU — simplifies the decision

Trade-offs

- Only 2-person capacity available

BROWSE SAUNALIFE INDOOR MODELSGet Pricing on SaunaLife Indoor Saunas

America's Best-Selling Indoor Saunas by Capacity

Browsing by Capacity. Pick the number of people the sauna needs to seat, then choose your preferred brand or heat type from the matching options.

1-Person Indoor Saunas

The rarest capacity — only three models in the indoor catalog

1-person indoor saunas are the rarest capacity in the premium tier — most brands skip this footprint and start at 2P. Three options across infrared and traditional Finnish: Clearlight Sanctuary 1 (full-spectrum), Clearlight Premier IS-1 (far-infrared), Auroom Cala Mini (traditional Finnish). All three fit a 36-42" wide footprint and run on a single user. Apartments, home offices, and small bedrooms.

Strengths

- Smallest footprint in the catalog — fits closets, home offices, and bedroom corners

- Lowest electrical load — most run on standard 120V outlets

- Fastest install — Clearlight 1P models arrive pre-assembled

Trade-offs

- Only three options across all four heat types

- Not designed for shared use or longer family sessions

Who buys it

Solo users in apartments, condos, or small spaces. Often a second sauna for a home that already has a larger primary cabin.

BROWSE 1-PERSON INDOOR MODELSGet Pricing on 1-Person Indoor Saunas

2-Person Indoor Saunas

The most common capacity — every brand makes one

2-person indoor saunas are the most common indoor sauna size. Every brand in the catalog has a 2P option, spanning all four heat types — full-spectrum infrared, far-infrared, traditional Finnish, and hybrid infra-steam. The 2P footprint typically runs 48-60" wide and fits in a converted closet, master bathroom, or dedicated wellness corner. Couples, recovery-focused individual users, apartment buyers.

Strengths

- Most product variety — every brand competes here

- Fits standard residential footprints (closets, bathroom corners, wellness rooms)

- Most models run on 120V or 240V depending on heat type — wide install flexibility

Trade-offs

- Tight fit for two adults in some sub-50" models — check bench dimensions

- Corner models reduce floor footprint but limit configuration options

Who buys it

Couples and recovery-focused solo users. The most popular capacity for first-time buyers — gives space to share without committing to a family-sized footprint.

BROWSE 2-PERSON INDOOR MODELSGet Pricing on 2-Person Indoor Saunas

3-Person Indoor Saunas

The sweet spot for small-family use — three models per brand

3-person indoor saunas are the practical step up from 2P — enough bench length for two adults plus a child, or three adults seated. Typical footprint 59-72" wide. Available across full-spectrum infrared (Clearlight Sanctuary 3), traditional Finnish (Auroom Libera, Familia, Vulcana 59×71 sizes, Cala Glass 59×71), and far-infrared (Clearlight Premier IS-3).

Strengths

- Best balance of capacity and footprint — enough room for family + occasional guests

- Available in all four heat types

- Fits most basement and dedicated-room installs

Trade-offs

- No hybrid option at this capacity — FD-4 is 2P, FD-5 XL is 4P

- Wider footprint may require room reconfiguration vs 2P

Who buys it

Small families and couples who want extra bench space for guests. Recovery-focused buyers who plan to share with a partner.

The 4P footprint typically runs 59-79" wide and accommodates two adults plus children, or three adult-only.

Strengths

- All four heat types available

- Includes ADA-compliant option (Clearlight Sanctuary Retreat)

America's Best-Selling Indoor Saunas by Heat Type

Browsing by Heat Type. The four indoor heat technologies have meaningfully different installation, temperature, session length, and price profiles. Pick the technology that matches how you want to use the sauna.

Traditional Finnish Indoor Saunas

The original sauna format — electric heater, sauna stones, optional löyly

Traditional Finnish indoor saunas use an electric heater with sauna stones — the format that's been around for 2,000 years in Finland. Higher temperatures (175–200°F) than infrared, with the option to pour water on the stones for löyly steam. The catalog's traditional Finnish indoor selection spans 25 models across Auroom (24 models in six lines: Libera Wood, Libera Glass, Familia, Vulcana, Baia, Cala) and SaunaLife (X2).

Strengths

- Authentic Finnish sauna experience — high heat, optional löyly

- Widest catalog selection of any indoor type (25 vs 6 vs 3 vs 2)

- Generally lower per-unit cost than infrared or hybrid

Trade-offs

- Requires separate heater purchase — not included with cabin kit

- Requires dedicated 240V circuit installed by licensed electrician

- Longer preheat time (45–60 minutes) than infrared (15–30 min)

Who buys it

Buyers who want the authentic Finnish experience over the infrared approach. Heat purists. Those with Scandinavian heritage. Anyone who's used a sauna in Europe and wants that specific feel.

BROWSE TRADITIONAL FINNISH INDOOR MODELSGet Pricing on Traditional Finnish Indoor Saunas

Full-Spectrum Infrared Indoor Saunas

The premium tier within indoor infrared saunas — near + mid + far in one cabin

Full-spectrum infrared means all three infrared wavelengths in one cabin: near (700–1,400 nm), mid (1,400–3,000 nm), and far (3,000+ nm). Near-infrared penetrates shallow but has documented benefits for skin and circulation. Mid-infrared targets soft tissue. Far-infrared (the longest wavelength) penetrates deepest and is responsible for the bulk of cardiovascular and detoxification research on infrared. Clearlight Sanctuary is the only full-spectrum line in the US dealer market with the True Wave heater system.

Strengths

- The most comprehensive infrared exposure available

- Lifetime residential warranty on heaters and controls (Sanctuary)

- 120V plug-in (most models) — no electrician needed

- Chromotherapy lighting included

Trade-offs

- Higher cost than far-infrared-only

- Lower temperatures than traditional Finnish (130–150°F max)

Who buys it

Buyers who want maximum infrared exposure and the longest warranty in the category. Wellness-focused buyers, recovery-focused athletes, and those with research backgrounds.

BROWSE FULL-SPECTRUM INFRARED INDOOR MODELSGet Pricing on Full-Spectrum Infrared Indoor Saunas

Far-Infrared Indoor Saunas

The entry tier of indoor infrared saunas — far-infrared only, more accessible price

Far-infrared (3,000+ nm) is the deepest-penetrating infrared wavelength — what most consumers think of as "infrared sauna heat." It's responsible for the bulk of the cardiovascular and detoxification research on infrared. Clearlight Premier (IS-1, IS-2, IS-3) is the catalog's far-infrared-only line, using carbon-ceramic heaters at a lower price point than the Sanctuary full-spectrum series. Same Clearlight build quality, just one wavelength instead of three.

Strengths

- More accessible price point than full-spectrum

- 7-year residential warranty (Premier)

- 120V plug-in — no electrician needed

- Larger heater coverage area than competing far-infrared brands

Trade-offs

- No near or mid-infrared wavelengths

- No chromotherapy on entry models

Who buys it

Buyers who want infrared at a tighter budget than full-spectrum. Those who specifically researched far-infrared and don't need the other wavelengths. Apartment buyers (since 120V plug-in fits any room with a standard outlet).

BROWSE FAR-INFRARED INDOOR MODELSGet Pricing on Far-Infrared Indoor Saunas

Hybrid Infra-Steam Indoor Saunas

The "three-in-one" approach — far-infrared + steam + red-light therapy in one cabin

Hybrid infra-steam combines a far-infrared cabin with a built-in steam generator and red-light therapy panel — three modalities in one enclosure. The Finnmark Trinity series (FD-4 and FD-5 XL) is the catalog's only hybrid offering. Users select the modality at the touchscreen controller: infrared-only session, steam session, infrared + steam combo, or add red light to any session.

Strengths

- Three wellness modalities in one cabin footprint

- 120V plug-in (FD-4) — apartment-friendly

- 5-year cabin warranty

Trade-offs

- Highest price-per-square-foot in the indoor catalog

- Steam component adds humidity — needs ventilation planning

- Fewer models than dedicated traditional/infrared lines

Who buys it

Buyers who want the full wellness stack but only have space for one cabin. Recovery-focused buyers who alternate between steam and infrared sessions. Those replacing a separate sauna + steam shower build.

Indoor Sauna FAQ

114 answers organized by category. The questions our specialists hear most often on pricing calls — answered up front so you can self-serve. Click any question to expand.

1. Buying & Decisions

How do I choose between an infrared and a traditional Finnish indoor sauna?

The single biggest decision in indoor sauna buying. Infrared (Clearlight Sanctuary or Premier) heats your body directly with infrared waves at lower air temperatures (130–150°F), so sessions run 30–45 minutes and feel gentler. Traditional Finnish (Auroom, SaunaLife) heats the room with electric stones to 170–195°F, optionally with löyly steam — sessions are shorter (10–20 minutes), hotter, and more intense. Health benefits research covers both, but the experiences are fundamentally different. Most buyers know within one session which one they want — we recommend trying both at a local spa before deciding.

Full-spectrum vs far-infrared — what's the actual difference?

Far-infrared (the longer wavelength) penetrates skin and produces the classic infrared sauna heat. It's what most clinical studies on infrared sauna used. Full-spectrum adds near and mid-infrared wavelengths, which target different effects — near-infrared is the wavelength studied for cellular and mitochondrial function. Clearlight Sanctuary is full-spectrum (all three). Clearlight Premier is far-infrared only. Premier costs less and delivers the well-studied benefits. Sanctuary adds the near-infrared spectrum for buyers who want the complete infrared story.

Kit vs pre-assembled — what's the difference for indoor saunas?

All Clearlight indoor cabins (Sanctuary and Premier) ship as kits that assemble in 30–90 minutes — wall panels click together with cam locks, no specialized tools required. Auroom kits (Libera, Familia, Vulcana, Baia, Cala) are similar — flat-pack on a pallet, with assembly typically 4–8 hours depending on size. SaunaLife X2 is a kit. Finnmark Trinity comes mostly pre-assembled with final connections in your room. There's no fully pre-assembled indoor sauna in the catalog because most indoor doorways are too narrow.

What size sauna do I need?

Count regular users, not maximum capacity. A 2-person cabin comfortably fits one adult fully reclined OR two adults sitting upright. A 4-person fits two adults reclined OR four adults upright. Most indoor buyers oversize by one — choose a 3-person if you have two regular users and want room to stretch, or a 4-person if you have a family of three. The 2-person tier has the widest aesthetic selection in the catalog (12+ models).

How much space do I need for an indoor sauna?

Add at least 12 inches of clearance around all sides for heater spacing, ventilation, and door swing. A 48×71-inch 2-person cabin therefore needs about a 6×8-foot room. A 79×99-inch 6-person cabin needs roughly an 8×10-foot dedicated space. Ceiling height should be at least 7 feet (most cabins are 75–82 inches tall). Clearlight Sanctuary models are slightly more compact than equivalent-capacity Auroom traditional saunas because infrared cabins don't need heater clearance for sauna stones.

Where in my home should an indoor sauna go?

Best locations: dedicated wellness rooms, finished basements, oversized master bathrooms, garage conversions, and home gyms. Saunas need a level floor (concrete or sealed wood), nearby electrical (120V for Clearlight, 240V for Auroom/Finnmark/SaunaLife), and ideally proximity to a shower for cool-down rinses. Avoid carpeted rooms (moisture risk), rooms with active HVAC vents directly above the cabin, and rooms without ventilation (especially for traditional/hybrid).

Can I install an indoor sauna myself?

Yes for Clearlight Sanctuary, Premier, and most Auroom kits — they're designed for DIY assembly with basic tools (drill, screwdriver, level). Plan for two people during the wall-panel stage even if one person handles the rest. Finnmark Trinity benefits from a contractor or experienced DIYer for the steam plumbing and electrical hookup. SaunaLife X2 is straightforward kit assembly. Where you'll usually need a pro: the dedicated 240V circuit installation (local electrician — your regional rate applies) and any custom flooring or ventilation work.

Should I get an infrared sauna or buy a sauna blanket instead?

Different products. A sauna blanket is a body wrap — far-infrared only, smaller body coverage area, much lower price tier, and you operate it lying down. A full cabin sauna gives you a seated upright session with whole-body exposure, the ability to share with another person, and a permanent feature in your home. Blankets work for solo travelers or buyers testing infrared for the first time. Cabins are the long-term home wellness investment. The two are complementary, not interchangeable.

Why do some products say Get Pricing instead of showing a price?

At Sauna Republic, we're not just selling saunas — we're helping you find the right one for your space, your climate, and how you plan to use it. That's why several of our brand partners (and our own process) route pricing through a specialist conversation rather than a public price tag. When you submit a Get Pricing inquiry, you get a personalized quote with current promotions, freight to your zip code, and configuration guidance from someone who knows the lineup. Quotes typically arrive within a few business hours.

How long do indoor saunas last?

Properly maintained, indoor saunas last 20–30+ years. The cabin itself (wood and structure) is essentially permanent — most issues are heater components (typical lifespan 10–15 years on traditional electric heaters, longer on Clearlight True Wave infrared heaters which carry lifetime warranties). Auroom's thermo-aspen interior is dimensionally stable and resists moisture damage. The biggest longevity threat is moisture mismanagement, especially with traditional Finnish or hybrid saunas — proper ventilation and post-session airing extends lifespan significantly.

What's the biggest mistake first-time indoor sauna buyers make?

Underestimating the room footprint. Buyers focus on capacity (3-person, 4-person) and forget that the cabin needs roughly 12 inches of clearance on all sides for heater spacing, ventilation, and door swing. A "4-person" cabin needs roughly a 6×8 foot room, not a 5×6 room. Measure your space, add 24 inches in each direction, then choose capacity. The second-biggest mistake: skipping the heater conversation on traditional Finnish purchases — the heater isn't included with most kits and is a meaningful separate line item your specialist will quote alongside the cabin.

2. Sauna Use & Health

What are the health benefits of regular indoor sauna use?

The largest body of research is on traditional Finnish sauna — Finnish longitudinal cohort studies link regular bathing (4+ sessions/week) to lower all-cause mortality, lower cardiovascular event risk, and lower dementia risk. Infrared sauna research is smaller but growing, with studies on cardiovascular function, recovery, and skin. Both modalities raise core body temperature, increase heart rate (mimicking moderate cardiovascular exercise), and trigger heat-shock protein response. Always consult your physician before starting a sauna routine, especially if you have heart conditions, take blood pressure medication, or are pregnant.

How often should I use a sauna?

Research from Finnish studies suggests 4 to 7 sauna sessions per week of 15 to 30 minutes each yields the most consistent cardiovascular and longevity benefits. Less frequent use (1 to 2 times per week) still provides relaxation and recovery benefits. We recommend starting with 2 to 3 sessions per week to build heat tolerance, then increasing to your preference. Listen to your body — if you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or unwell, exit immediately.

How long should a typical sauna session be?

Traditional Finnish indoor sauna: 10 to 20 minutes per round at 170 to 195°F, with a cool-down break between rounds. Most users do 2 to 3 rounds per session. Infrared sauna (Clearlight Sanctuary, Premier): 30 to 45 minutes at 120 to 140°F (lower temperature requires longer exposure for similar wellness effects). Beginners should start with 5 to 10 minutes and gradually increase. Hydrate before, during, and after.

Is an indoor sauna safe for pregnancy?

Most medical guidance recommends pregnant women avoid traditional high-heat sauna use, especially in the first trimester, due to risk of overheating. Some research suggests brief, lower-temperature exposure may be acceptable in later pregnancy, but only with explicit OB/GYN approval. We recommend consulting your physician before any sauna use during pregnancy. This is a medical decision, not a product decision — we don't provide medical advice.

Can I use HSA or FSA funds to buy an indoor sauna?

Often yes, with a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN). Every Sauna Republic invoice includes a Truemed payment option — Truemed handles the LMN/eligibility process per customer based on their physician input and health profile. Truemed determines eligibility per purchase. We don't claim product-level pre-approval. Average savings when eligible are around 30% (pre-tax dollars). The standard return policy applies (HSA-paid orders are not final sale).

Are infrared saunas effective for detox?

"Detox" is a marketing term that the medical research treats cautiously. Sweating does excrete some heavy metals and BPA in measurable but small amounts. The body's primary detox systems (liver, kidneys) are not directly accelerated by sauna use. The well-supported benefits of regular sauna use — cardiovascular conditioning, heat-shock protein response, perceived recovery, sleep quality — are real and significant. We recommend buying a sauna for those evidence-based benefits, not for "detox" specifically.

Can I sauna with a heart condition or high blood pressure?

Sauna use can affect heart rate and blood pressure. Anyone with cardiovascular conditions, uncontrolled hypertension, recent heart attack, or other heart-related conditions should consult their physician before sauna use. Diabetes, autoimmune conditions, multiple sclerosis, and certain medications can also affect heat tolerance. We strongly recommend medical clearance for any pre-existing condition before regular sauna use.

Does an infrared sauna help with recovery from workouts?

Post-workout sauna use improves perceived recovery and may accelerate muscle recovery via heat-shock protein response and improved circulation. The research is strongest for traditional Finnish sauna post-exercise; infrared is reasonable to assume similar effects but with less direct study. Many athletes use the sauna 30–60 minutes after training as part of their recovery routine. Hydration before AND after the session is critical.

Can children use indoor saunas?

Children under 6 generally shouldn't sauna due to immature thermoregulation. Children 6 to 12 can sauna with parent supervision for short periods (5 to 10 minutes) at lower temperatures (140 to 160°F). Teenagers can sauna at adult temperatures with shorter session lengths. Always start mild, watch for any signs of overheating, and ensure children hydrate. As with all medical questions, consult your pediatrician.

Does sauna use interact with medications?

Some medications change how your body regulates temperature, cardiovascular response, or fluid balance — including blood pressure medications, diuretics, anticholinergics, beta-blockers, and some psychiatric medications. Talk to your prescribing physician before starting regular sauna use if you're on any prescription. Research documents safe use with most cardiovascular medications under physician guidance, but specifics depend on your situation.

3. Installation & Setup

How long does indoor sauna assembly take?

Clearlight Sanctuary and Premier: 30–90 minutes (wall panels click together). Auroom kits: 4–8 hours depending on cabin size. SaunaLife X2: 6–10 hours. Finnmark Trinity: 4–6 hours plus electrical and steam line hookup. Plan for two people during the wall-panel stage even if one person handles the rest. Auroom assembly time scales with cabin size — Cala Mini (1P) takes about 3 hours, Libera 79×99 (6P) takes about 8 hours.

Do I need a contractor to install an indoor sauna?

For Clearlight Sanctuary and Premier, no — DIY assembly with basic tools. For Auroom and SaunaLife kits, a handy DIYer can assemble alone. Finnmark Trinity benefits from a contractor for steam plumbing and dedicated 240V wiring. You'll definitely need an electrician for any 240V circuit installation (Auroom, SaunaLife, Finnmark all need 240V). Some buyers hire a general contractor for the full install — typically a single-day job at your local contractor rate.

What kind of floor do I need under an indoor sauna?

Level concrete is ideal. Sealed wood flooring (engineered hardwood, vinyl plank, sealed tile) also works fine for infrared and traditional Finnish — the sauna sits on a raised wood base that protects the floor from heat and moisture. Avoid: carpeted floors (moisture risk and trapped odors), unsealed wood, or floors that aren't level. For Finnmark Trinity, a tile floor is preferred because the steam component adds humidity.

Does the sauna need a drain?

Not for Clearlight infrared (no humidity generated). Not strictly required for Auroom or SaunaLife traditional Finnish — most installations have no drain, since löyly steam evaporates between sessions. For Finnmark Trinity (hybrid infra-steam), a nearby drain is strongly recommended because of the higher humidity output from the steam generator. Some buyers install a small floor drain in the room itself even for traditional Finnish to make post-session cleanup easier.

How tall does my ceiling need to be?

Indoor saunas in the catalog are 75–82 inches tall depending on model. Minimum room ceiling height is therefore 7 feet (84 inches), but 8 feet is more comfortable for ventilation and feel. Sloped ceilings can work as long as the sauna fits under the lowest point. Sanctuary models are slightly taller than Premier; Auroom Libera and Familia are at the taller end; Cala Mini is the shortest.

Can I install an indoor sauna in a basement?

Yes, and basements are one of the most common indoor sauna locations. Requirements: dry basement (no active moisture or seepage), adequate electrical (120V outlet for Clearlight, 240V circuit for others), and at least passive ventilation. For traditional Finnish or hybrid saunas, plan for active ventilation since steam moisture has nowhere to escape otherwise. Finished basements with HVAC and dehumidifier control are ideal.

Can I put a sauna in my garage?

Yes, with caveats. Garages typically have concrete floors (good) but limited heating and insulation (manageable). The cabin itself is insulated, but cold ambient temperatures mean longer heat-up times in winter. Electrical access varies — many garages have 240V circuits already (for compressors, EVs), which simplifies traditional Finnish installation. Ventilation is usually fine in garages. The biggest watchout: garage moisture buildup if the sauna is heavily used in cold weather — passive ventilation matters.

Does the sauna need to be against an exterior wall?

No. Indoor saunas are fully self-contained — no exterior venting is required (unlike a wood-burning sauna). You can place them mid-room, against an interior wall, or in a corner. The only requirement is access to electrical and ideally proximity to a shower or bathroom. Sanctuary C is specifically designed for corner placement.

How soon after assembly can I use the sauna?

Immediately for Clearlight infrared (Sanctuary, Premier). Traditional Finnish (Auroom, SaunaLife) and hybrid (Finnmark Trinity) saunas benefit from a "burn-in" cycle — heat to operating temperature with no occupants for 30–60 minutes to off-gas any manufacturing residues from wood treatment and heater elements. Run the burn-in with the cabin door slightly open if possible. After that, normal use.

What if my floor isn't perfectly level?

Small deviations (under 1/4 inch over 6 feet) are tolerable — wall panels have built-in tolerance. Larger deviations should be corrected before assembly with shims under the cabin base, or a self-leveling underlayment for severely uneven floors. Out-of-level cabins develop door alignment issues and stress wall joints over years of use. If you're unsure, lay a 6-foot level diagonally and corner-to-corner across the install area before ordering.

4. Electrical, Heaters & Smart Controls

What electrical do I need for a Clearlight Sanctuary or Premier?

Standard 120V household outlet. Every Clearlight indoor sauna in the catalog (Sanctuary 1, 2, 3, 5, C, Retreat, Premier IS-1, IS-2, IS-3) plugs into a regular 120V/15A or 120V/20A outlet — no electrician required. This is one of Clearlight's biggest practical advantages. Verify the outlet is on a circuit that isn't shared with high-draw appliances (like a microwave or space heater).

What electrical do I need for an Auroom sauna?

A dedicated 240V circuit, typically 30A or 40A depending on heater size. Your electrician will spec the exact amperage based on the heater you choose at order (HUUM, Harvia, or Saunum, ranging from 4.5 kW for 1–2 person cabins to 10.5 kW for 5–6 person cabins). Plan for typical electrician rates in your market for the dedicated circuit installation.

What electrical do I need for SaunaLife X2 and Finnmark Trinity?

SaunaLife X2 needs a 240V circuit for the electric heater (typically 4.5–6 kW). Finnmark FD-4 Trinity (2-person) needs a 240V/30A circuit. Finnmark FD-5 Trinity XL (4-person) needs a 240V/40A circuit. Both Trinity models combine infrared, steam, and red-light into a single circuit draw.

How do I size the heater for a traditional Finnish indoor sauna?

Approximately 1 kW per 35–45 cubic feet of cabin volume. A small 2-person Auroom Familia 48×71 (about 100 cubic feet) needs a 4.5 kW heater. A 4-person Auroom Libera Wood 59×79 (about 170 cubic feet) needs a 6–8 kW heater. A 6-person Libera 79×99 (about 270 cubic feet) needs a 9–10.5 kW heater. Our specialists spec the exact heater on your pricing call based on cabin volume and your preferred brand (HUUM, Harvia, or Saunum).

Are Clearlight saunas low EMF?

Yes. Clearlight engineered True Wave heaters specifically for low EMF and low ELF emissions, measured at the bench level. Independent third-party testing confirms emission levels well below industry standards. Clearlight publishes their EMF data on their site. This is a major reason Clearlight is the preferred premium infrared brand for health-focused buyers concerned about electromagnetic field exposure.

What's a smart controller and do I need one?

Smart controllers (HUUM UKU Wi-Fi, Harvia Xenio Wi-Fi, Saunum AirIQ) let you preheat your sauna from a smartphone app — start it from the office, walk into a heated cabin when you get home. Strongly worth it for traditional Finnish saunas (30–45 minute preheat). For Clearlight infrared (15–20 minute preheat), included control panels are sufficient — Wi-Fi smart controllers aren't typically necessary.

Do indoor saunas use a lot of electricity?

Less than most buyers expect. A Clearlight Sanctuary on 120V averages 1.5–2 kWh per session (a few quarters at typical US rates). A traditional Finnish sauna with a 6 kW heater averages 3–5 kWh per session. Heavy daily use adds a modest annual electricity cost — comparable to running an extra refrigerator and far less than running a hot tub.

Can I use a standard outlet for a Clearlight sauna?

Yes — that's the design intent. Standard 120V/15A outlets handle all Clearlight Sanctuary and Premier indoor models. Don't share the circuit with a microwave, space heater, or other high-draw appliance running simultaneously. If your outlet trips when the sauna runs, your electrician can dedicate that circuit (cheaper than installing a new one).

Can I share the 240V circuit with another appliance?

No. Sauna circuits should be dedicated — heaters draw their full rated wattage for the entire session, and sharing the circuit risks tripping the breaker mid-session or damaging the other appliance. Your electrician will pull a new dedicated circuit during installation; this is standard practice and is the reason traditional Finnish installs carry an electrical work line item.

Do Clearlight saunas need a GFCI outlet?

Not required by Clearlight — the units have internal ground-fault protection. Some local jurisdictions require GFCI for any 120V outlet in a basement or near plumbing, so check your local code. If a GFCI trips when the sauna runs, the issue is usually nuisance tripping from inrush current on heater startup; an electrician can verify the GFCI is properly sized for the load.

5. Indoor Construction & Materials

What wood are indoor saunas made from?

Clearlight Sanctuary and Premier: clear basswood interior with cedar or mahogany exterior options. Basswood is hypoallergenic and resists warping. Auroom: thermo-aspen interior (heat-treated for moisture resistance and dimensional stability) with various exterior options. SaunaLife X2: Nordic Spruce. Finnmark Trinity: Canadian hemlock. Each wood has its own scent, color, and density — basswood is mildest, cedar is the classic Finnish aromatic, thermo-aspen is the most stable.

Is cedar required for a sauna?

No. Cedar is the traditional choice in North American sauna manufacturing because of its natural aromatic oils and rot resistance, but Finnish saunas have historically used spruce, pine, and aspen. Thermo-modified aspen (used by Auroom) is actually more dimensionally stable and less prone to warping than untreated cedar. Hypoallergenic buyers often prefer Clearlight's basswood interior over cedar because cedar oils can trigger sensitivities.

Do indoor saunas need a vapor barrier in the wall?

Pre-built sauna cabinets in the catalog (all Clearlight, Auroom, SaunaLife, Finnmark) come with proper vapor barriers and insulation built in. No additional wall prep is required — the cabin is a complete sealed unit. This is the major advantage of buying a pre-engineered cabin over building a custom in-wall sauna where you have to source and install your own vapor barrier and insulation.

Are indoor saunas insulated?

Yes. All cabinet-style indoor saunas in the catalog have wall, ceiling, and floor insulation built into the panels. This both keeps the heat in (reducing electrical cost) and protects the surrounding room from heat radiation. Cabin exterior surfaces stay close to room temperature during operation.

What is thermo-aspen and why does Auroom use it?

Thermo-aspen is aspen wood that's been heat-treated in a controlled kiln process at 400°F+ to remove moisture and resins. The result is wood that's significantly more dimensionally stable, moisture-resistant, and rot-resistant than untreated aspen. Auroom uses it for the interior of every Libera, Familia, Vulcana, Baia, and Cala model. Color is darker and warmer than untreated aspen — a signature Auroom aesthetic.

Does the wood smell go away?

Yes, mostly. New saunas have a strong wood scent for the first 5–15 sessions, then the aroma fades to a faint background level. Cedar saunas retain more scent long-term than basswood or thermo-aspen. Many traditional sauna buyers consider the cedar smell a feature, not a side effect. If you have wood allergies or sensitivities, Clearlight's basswood interior is the lowest-VOC choice in the catalog.

Can I customize the bench layout?

Most cabinets ship with fixed bench configurations matched to capacity rating. Auroom offers a few bench arrangement options at order on larger cabinets. Baia and Baia Glass have a distinctive angled ergonomic bench (different from the standard flat bench). Custom bench modifications aren't typically supported — the structural and ventilation engineering depends on the bench layout.

Are the doors and windows tempered glass?

Yes. All glass-front saunas in the catalog (Sanctuary, Premier, Auroom Libera Glass, Cala Glass, SaunaLife X2, Auroom Baia Glass) use tempered safety glass certified for sauna temperatures. Tempered glass resists thermal shock and shatters into safe granular pieces rather than sharp shards if broken.

I have wood allergies — what wood is safest?

Clearlight Sanctuary and Premier interiors are basswood, which is hypoallergenic and the lowest-VOC option in the catalog. Cedar (used in some Clearlight exterior options) has aromatic oils that can trigger sensitivities. Auroom thermo-aspen is heat-treated to remove most resins and is generally well-tolerated. SaunaLife Nordic spruce is mild. If you have severe wood sensitivities, request a wood sample from us before ordering — most manufacturers send small samples for sensitivity testing.

Can I add custom interior lighting?

Most catalog cabins include chromotherapy lighting built in (Clearlight Sanctuary, Premier; Auroom upgrade option). Adding aftermarket lighting is technically possible but tricky — sauna-rated fixtures must withstand 170°F+ temperatures and humidity, and DIY lighting can void warranties on traditional Finnish cabins. If chromotherapy isn't included in your model, the cleanest upgrade path is a factory option at order, not aftermarket.

6. Ventilation & Humidity

Do indoor saunas need ventilation?

All saunas need some ventilation to circulate air during use. Clearlight infrared cabinets have built-in ceiling vents (no external ventilation needed — just open the cabin door briefly between sessions). Traditional Finnish saunas (Auroom, SaunaLife) have intake and exhaust vents in the cabin walls that exchange air during operation. Finnmark Trinity (hybrid with steam) benefits from active room ventilation because of the humidity output.

Will my indoor sauna cause humidity problems in my house?

Infrared saunas (Clearlight) produce essentially zero humidity. Traditional Finnish löyly steam evaporates quickly and the volume is small relative to a room — most installations have no humidity issues. The exception is heavy use of Finnmark Trinity (which has an active steam generator), where you'll want either a bathroom-style exhaust fan, a nearby window, or a dehumidifier in the room.

Do I need an exhaust fan in the room?

For Clearlight infrared and small Auroom traditional saunas: no. For 4+ person traditional Finnish saunas used heavily: a passive vent or exhaust fan helps. For Finnmark Trinity hybrid: a bathroom-style 50–80 CFM exhaust fan is recommended. Most installations work fine without active mechanical ventilation as long as the room has at least one normal-sized doorway or window for air exchange.

Should I leave the sauna door open between sessions?

Yes. Leaving the cabin door open for 15–30 minutes after a session allows interior moisture to evaporate, prevents wood from staying wet, and significantly extends the cabin lifespan. This is the single most important maintenance habit for indoor saunas. Closed cabins trap residual moisture which over years can lead to wood degradation.

What's the difference between intake and exhaust vents?

Intake vents (typically near the floor next to the heater) draw fresh cool air into the cabin during operation. Exhaust vents (typically near the ceiling on the opposite wall) let warm humid air escape. The convection circulation keeps the bench breathable during traditional Finnish sessions. Infrared cabinets use a different design — passive ceiling vents only, since infrared doesn't depend on convective heating.

Can I install a sauna in a windowless room?

Yes. Most indoor saunas — including all Clearlight infrared and most Auroom traditional models — work fine in windowless basements, finished rooms, or interior spaces. Just leave the cabin door open for 15–30 minutes after each session to release moisture. For Finnmark Trinity in a windowless room, install a bathroom-style exhaust fan.

Does the sauna affect my HVAC system?

Not in any meaningful way for most indoor saunas. Clearlight infrared produces negligible humidity and minor temperature impact (the cabin is insulated). Traditional Finnish saunas raise room temperature 5–10°F during active sessions and add minor humidity. Finnmark Trinity has the highest impact due to steam output — your HVAC may run slightly more to dehumidify, but heavy daily use is still well within typical residential capacity.

Can I use an aromatherapy diffuser with my sauna?

For traditional Finnish saunas: yes — add a few drops of essential oils to the water you pour on the sauna stones (eucalyptus and birch are traditional). Don't use aftermarket plug-in diffusers in infrared cabins; the dry heat doesn't carry aromas well and most electric diffusers aren't rated for sauna temperatures. Clearlight Sanctuary cabins include an integrated aromatherapy reservoir designed for the cabin environment.

Will sauna humidity affect adjacent rooms?

For Clearlight infrared: no, essentially zero humidity output. For Auroom and SaunaLife traditional Finnish: minor, usually undetectable in adjacent rooms with normal house ventilation. For Finnmark Trinity hybrid: noticeable humidity in the immediate room, but adjacent rooms are typically fine unless doors are left open during sessions. A bathroom-style exhaust fan during Trinity steam sessions eliminates any spillover concern.

7. Room Requirements & Building Codes

Do I need a building permit for an indoor sauna?

Usually no — indoor saunas are typically considered appliances, not structural additions. The dedicated 240V circuit installation (for Auroom, SaunaLife, Finnmark) typically requires an electrical permit in most US jurisdictions. Clearlight infrared on 120V usually doesn't need any permit. Always check with your local building department, especially if you're a condo owner subject to HOA rules.

Are there building codes specifically for residential saunas?

Most US residential building codes don't have sauna-specific provisions — saunas fall under general appliance and electrical codes. The relevant codes are typically electrical (NEC for the dedicated circuit), ventilation (for moisture management in finished spaces), and sometimes egress (cabin door must open outward, which all catalog models do).

Is the Clearlight Sanctuary Retreat actually ADA-compliant?

Sanctuary Retreat is designed for ADA-compliant wheelchair access — wider door (36+ inches), wheelchair-friendly interior space, and bench layout that accommodates transfer. It's the only indoor sauna in the catalog with this specific design. Specific ADA certification varies by installation context (residential vs commercial). Strict ADA Title III commercial compliance involves additional installation considerations beyond just the cabin — our specialists can walk through what your specific situation requires.

Can I install an indoor sauna in a condo or apartment?

Yes, with caveats. Check your HOA bylaws and lease agreement first — some prohibit appliance additions or have restrictions on electrical work. Clearlight on 120V is the easiest install for condo/apartment owners since no new circuit work is required. Sound transmission through floors and walls is minimal for sauna use. Moisture management matters more in condos than detached homes because problems can affect neighbors.

What about HOA approval?

HOAs that govern interior modifications usually don't restrict indoor saunas, but it's worth checking. The bigger HOA issue is when buyers want to install electrical work (240V circuit) that requires accessing shared building infrastructure. Clearlight on 120V sidesteps this entirely. For traditional Finnish or hybrid installs in condos, get HOA approval for the electrician work upfront.

Do I need to do anything special to the floor?

For Clearlight infrared: nothing — the sauna sits on its own base that protects the floor from heat. For Auroom and SaunaLife traditional Finnish: nothing if the floor is sealed (vinyl plank, tile, sealed concrete, sealed engineered hardwood). For Finnmark Trinity: a non-porous floor (tile or sealed concrete preferred) and ideally a nearby drain, because of the steam component.

Can I install a sauna in a small space?

Yes. The smallest options in the catalog: Sanctuary 1 (about 36×42 inches), Premier IS-1 (similar), Cala Mini (1-person traditional, about 38×52 inches). All three fit easily into a closet, small home office corner, or oversized bathroom. They're the rare 1-person tier — most premium brands skip this size entirely.

Do I need separate homeowners insurance coverage?

Indoor saunas are typically covered under standard homeowners insurance as installed personal property. Call your insurer to confirm — some require notification for high-value installed appliances, and a few have specific policies about home wellness equipment. Document your purchase with the invoice and serial numbers for any future claim.

Will an indoor sauna affect my home appraisal value?

Mixed. A built-in sauna can add value in some markets (Scandinavian-heritage regions, premium wellness markets, high-end remodels) and is neutral in most others. Removable kit installations (the format of every cabinet in our catalog) typically don't appraise as a built-in feature — they're personal property that travels with you. Permanent in-wall sauna installs sometimes add 1–3% to appraised value in wellness-positive markets; results vary widely.

8. Maintenance & Long-Term Care

How do I clean an indoor sauna?

Wipe down the bench and floor with a damp cloth after each session — water is sufficient. Don't use cleaning products with strong fragrances or chemicals (they'll be heated and inhaled during the next session). Periodically (every 1–3 months), use a sauna-specific cleaner — SaunaLife and other brands sell purpose-made sauna cleaners. For Clearlight infrared, only the interior bench needs regular wiping; the heaters and walls clean rarely.

How often should I oil or treat the wood?

Most sauna interior wood doesn't need oiling — Auroom thermo-aspen, Clearlight basswood, and SaunaLife Nordic spruce are designed for sauna use without treatment. SaunaLife sells a paraffin oil for buyers who want to refresh the wood color periodically. Never use polyurethane, varnish, or sealers on a sauna interior — they'll off-gas during heat-up.

How do I clean sauna stones?

Traditional Finnish saunas with electric heaters use sauna stones (olivine diabase typically) that should be inspected annually. Remove all stones, rinse with water to remove dust and debris, replace any that have cracked or fragmented, and rearrange so flat sides face up (improves heat distribution). Replace the entire stone set every 3–5 years for heavy use, every 7–10 for moderate use.

Do I need to do anything to maintain a Clearlight infrared sauna?

Very little. Wipe down the bench and floor between sessions. Periodically (annual is plenty) inspect the heater panels for dust or debris and wipe them clean with a dry cloth. The lifetime warranty on heaters, controls, and electronics means no scheduled component replacement. Most Clearlight owners do almost nothing beyond basic cleaning.

How long do sauna heaters last?

Clearlight True Wave infrared heaters: lifetime warranty (covered indefinitely with normal use). Traditional electric heaters (HUUM, Harvia, Saunum): typically 10–15 years for heavy use, 20+ years for moderate use. Heater elements are user-replaceable when they fail — a modest replacement part cost. Finnmark Trinity steam generators: 8–12 years typical, with the unit user-serviceable.

What if my sauna develops moisture damage?

Catch it early. Signs: wood warping, dark staining, mold smell, soft spots in the wood. Causes are almost always: closing the cabin immediately after sessions (trapping humidity), poor room ventilation, or persistent leaks from the steam generator on Finnmark units. Light moisture damage can be sanded out and re-sealed. Severe damage requires panel replacement — contact us for parts orders. Prevention (leaving the door open post-session) is far easier than repair.

Can I take vacations and leave the sauna unused?

Yes — saunas are passive when not in use. There's no scheduled maintenance for time-off. The biggest watchout is room humidity changes during your absence (in basement installs especially) — if you're leaving for several weeks in a humid climate, run a dehumidifier in the room. Otherwise, no special prep needed.

Can I leave my sauna on standby between sessions?

Not recommended. Keeping a sauna at operating temperature 24/7 wastes significant energy (10–20 kWh/day for traditional Finnish) and accelerates wear on heater components. The 30–45 minute preheat time isn't enough to justify standby operation. Use a Wi-Fi smart controller (HUUM UKU Wi-Fi, Harvia Xenio) to preheat from your phone before sessions instead.

What's the energy cost of an always-on sauna?

Traditional Finnish at 170–180°F continuous: noticeable monthly cost at typical US electricity rates. Infrared at full output 24/7: meaningfully lower than always-on traditional. Per-session cost (preheating only when used) is a fraction of always-on. Most owners save substantially each month by preheating only when they'll use it. Smart controllers pay back quickly from this savings alone.

9. Pricing, Financing & HSA/FSA

How long until I receive my pricing quote?

Most pricing requests are returned within a few hours during business hours, and within 24 hours always — including weekends. Our specialists work 7 days a week. If your request involves a custom configuration or multi-unit order, you may hear back within a day with clarifying questions before the formal quote arrives.

How much does an indoor sauna typically cost?

Indoor sauna pricing spans a wide range depending on size, brand, materials, heat type, and configuration. Entry-level indoor saunas start in the lower price tier; mid-range options sit in the middle; premium full-spectrum infrared and large Auroom traditional Finnish cabins occupy the higher end. We send personalized pricing on every request — that's the most accurate way to know exactly what your specific configuration costs, including freight to your zip code, heater spec (for traditional Finnish), and any current promotions.

Is financing available?

Yes. We offer financing options that let you spread the cost of your purchase over time. Specific terms vary by order total and your credit profile. When you request pricing, your specialist will include available financing options and approximate monthly payments alongside the standard quote. We also accept Shop Pay Installments at checkout for many products (note that Shop Pay Installments purchases are final sale and not eligible for return).

How does Truemed / HSA / FSA work for a sauna?

Many of our infrared saunas, red light therapy devices, and certain wellness products may qualify for HSA or FSA reimbursement when purchased with a Letter of Medical Necessity. We've partnered with Truemed to handle eligibility verification at the invoice level — Truemed determines what qualifies for your specific account, processes documentation, and handles reimbursement. Eligibility is confirmed per customer at invoice. Customers using Truemed have averaged around 30% in tax savings.

Are infrared saunas more likely to be HSA-eligible than traditional Finnish?

Truemed makes the eligibility determination per customer based on the LMN content. Both infrared and traditional Finnish saunas can be eligible — the eligibility depends on the documented medical necessity for the individual buyer, not the product type. Don't assume the modality matters either way until Truemed runs its review.

What's the typical lead time from order to delivery?

Clearlight Sanctuary and Premier: in-stock items ship in 5–10 business days; backorders 3–6 weeks. Auroom: kits ship from Estonia, typical lead time 6–10 weeks from order. Finnmark Trinity: 4–8 weeks. SaunaLife X2: 2–4 weeks. Custom or out-of-stock Clearlight finishes (specific mahogany, special colors) may have 8–12 week lead times. We confirm exact lead times in your quote.

Do you price-match other authorized dealers?

We honor manufacturer-mandated pricing (Minimum Advertised Price policies that our brand partners enforce across their authorized dealer networks), and we don't undercut other authorized dealers. If you've seen a lower price from another authorized dealer, send us the link or quote — we'll match it within our authorized dealer pricing structure. Watch for unauthorized dealers selling below MAP; they typically can't honor manufacturer warranties, and prices that look too good may carry significant risk.

What's included in the price quote?

Standard quotes include the sauna cabin/kit, the manufacturer warranty, and shipping to your address in the continental US. For traditional Finnish indoor saunas (Auroom, SaunaLife), the heater is quoted separately so you can see the line item. Quotes typically don't include electrical work (you hire a local electrician), assembly labor (you DIY or hire local labor), or sales tax (calculated at checkout based on your address). Each quote breaks out these line items so you see total project cost upfront — no surprises.

Are there any hidden costs?

There are no hidden costs in our quotes — what we quote is what you pay. Costs that exist OUTSIDE our quote and are paid to local contractors include: electrical hookup for traditional Finnish saunas (240V dedicated circuit, at your local electrician rate), and assembly labor if you don't DIY (typical regional handyman or installer rate). Clearlight infrared models are 120V plug-in so no electrician is needed. Your specialist will flag any non-quote costs specific to your selection so total project budget is clear before you commit.

Does Truemed eligibility work for accessories too?

Depends on the accessory and the LMN — Truemed evaluates each line item separately. Saunas and red-light therapy products are typically eligible categories. Pure aesthetic upgrades (chromotherapy color packs, premium wood upgrades) are sometimes excluded. Cleaning products and sauna stones are generally not eligible. The definitive answer comes from Truemed's review of your specific order.

10. Delivery & Freight

How is an indoor sauna delivered?

Indoor saunas ship via LTL freight (truck delivery on a pallet) for kit-style cabins, or in multiple smaller boxes for some Clearlight models. The freight carrier delivers curbside in most cases — you're responsible for getting the pallet into your home. Some buyers add liftgate service (small additional fee) so the freight comes off the truck on a lift. Inside delivery and white-glove options are available for additional cost — your specialist quotes these alongside your standard freight.

Do I need to be home for delivery?

Yes for freight deliveries — someone needs to be present to inspect the pallet for damage and sign the delivery receipt. Smaller Clearlight component shipments via UPS or FedEx don't require signature in most cases. We send tracking and delivery scheduling info as soon as your order ships.

What if the sauna arrives damaged?

Inspect every shipment before signing. If you see visible damage to packaging or sauna components, note it on the bill of lading and take photos before the freight driver leaves. Then contact us within 48 hours of delivery. Damaged-in-transit claims are easiest to resolve when documented at delivery. We'll coordinate replacement parts or a full unit replacement depending on severity. Standard freight delivery includes insurance coverage that we file on your behalf.

How heavy are the pallets?

Cabin-style kits range from 400–1,200 pounds depending on size. The smallest Clearlight Premier IS-1 is roughly 350 pounds. Auroom Libera 79×99 (6-person) can be 1,400+ pounds. You'll want at least 2–3 strong helpers to move the pallet into your home, OR pay for white-glove delivery.

Do you ship to Alaska, Hawaii, or US territories?

Yes — we ship to all 50 US states and US territories (Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa). Continental US shipping is included in the standard quote. For Alaska, Hawaii, and territories, additional freight applies — ask for the surcharge when you request a quote and we'll work out the specifics for your address. We don't ship to Canada or other international destinations at this time.

Can I expedite shipping?

We don't offer expedited shipping. Lead times vary by brand and model — your specialist will share a delivery window when you request pricing. In-stock items (typically Clearlight) ship faster than built-to-order European models (Auroom, Finnmark are made in Estonia and Latvia respectively and have manufacturing lead times that can't be expedited). Standard freight transit applies once the unit leaves the warehouse.

Can I schedule a specific delivery window?

Most freight carriers offer 4-hour delivery windows that you schedule directly after the pallet ships. Specific arrival times (within 30 minutes) are usually available with white-glove or premium delivery services for an additional fee. For standard freight, plan to be available for a 4-hour window on the delivery day; the carrier calls 24–48 hours before delivery to confirm.

11. Warranty, Returns & Service

What's the Clearlight warranty?

Clearlight offers a residential lifetime warranty on the cabin, heaters, controls, and electronics for the original owner. The industry's strongest residential warranty. Commercial use (gyms, spas) has a separate shorter commercial warranty. Warranty service is direct with Clearlight — they handle parts and replacement units. We facilitate the warranty claim process for you.

What's the Auroom warranty?

Auroom offers a 5-year warranty on the cabin structure (frames, panels, glass) and a 2-year warranty on electrical components. The thermo-aspen interior and Estonian-made build quality typically far outlast the warranty period. Heater warranties depend on the heater brand selected (HUUM, Harvia, Saunum all have 2-year standard warranties).

What's covered under warranty and what isn't?

Warranty terms vary by brand. General ranges: cabin/sauna structure warranty runs 1 to 5 years on workmanship and materials. Electric heater warranty runs 1 to 3 years on most brands; lifetime on Clearlight infrared heaters. Wood-burning stove warranty runs 1 to 5 years depending on manufacturer. Specific terms are included with every quote.

Can I return an indoor sauna if I don't like it?

Return policies vary by product and brand. Most products are eligible for return within 30 days of delivery in original, unused, undamaged condition. Saunas and large wellness equipment may have restocking fees due to cost of return freight. Custom-configured saunas may not be returnable once production starts. Your specialist will walk you through specific return terms before you buy. Note that Shop Pay Installments purchases are final sale.

Who do I call if something breaks?

Warranty claims for products purchased through Sauna Republic are honored by both us and the manufacturer. We act as your point of contact — file the claim with us, we'll coordinate with the manufacturer, and we stay in the loop until resolution. For most claims, we ship replacement parts directly. For larger issues (defective sauna body, structural problems), we coordinate with the manufacturer and freight carrier. You don't navigate the manufacturer's claims process alone.

Do you offer installation or repair service?

Sauna Republic doesn't directly provide installation or repair labor — we ship the product. For installation, most buyers DIY (Clearlight, Auroom kits) or hire a local contractor. For repairs, parts orders go through us; the actual labor is local. We can recommend independent sauna installers in some metros — ask on your pricing call.

What if I move and want to take the sauna with me?

Yes, indoor saunas are removable. Disassemble in reverse order of installation (most panels click apart with the same cam locks that secured them). The cabin is portable as a kit. Plan for the move to take about as long as the original installation. Notify us of any panel damage during disassembly — replacement panels are available for most models.

If I sell my home, does the warranty transfer to the new owner?

Clearlight residential lifetime warranty is for the original owner — it does NOT transfer when you sell. Auroom's 5-year warranty transfers within the warranty period with proof of original purchase and a registered ownership change. SaunaLife and Finnmark warranties vary; check each manufacturer's specific policy. If you're buying in part for resale value, the non-transferable Clearlight lifetime warranty is a factor — it's a personal-use benefit, not a property feature.

Is there an extended service plan after warranty expires?

Some products offer manufacturer extended warranty options at order time — your specialist will mention if available for your selection. Third-party extended warranty services are also available but generally not recommended — manufacturer warranties typically cover the most likely failure modes, and third-party warranties have many exclusions. The best long-term insurance is buying from authorized dealers (us) with brands that have strong warranty histories (Clearlight, HUUM, Auroom).

12. Brand-Specific Questions

Why is Clearlight more expensive than other infrared brands?

Three reasons: True Wave full-spectrum heaters with documented low-EMF engineering (a real, measurable difference from cheaper infrared brands); lifetime warranty (covers the cabin and electronics indefinitely); and US-based design and quality control (build standards exceed most imported infrared brands). The premium is real value — not marketing markup.

Is Sanctuary 5 a 5-person sauna?

Sanctuary 5 fits 4 adults comfortably; the "5" is the model number, not the capacity. Clearlight Sanctuary capacities: Sanctuary 1 = 1-person, Sanctuary 2 = 2-person, Sanctuary 3 = 3-person, Sanctuary 5 = 4-person, Sanctuary C = 2-person corner, Sanctuary Retreat = 4-person ADA. The naming convention isn't intuitive but it's the manufacturer's standard.

Why is Auroom Cala Mini just 1-person?

Auroom designed Cala Mini specifically to fill the 1-person gap in indoor traditional Finnish saunas. Most premium Finnish brands skip the 1-person size entirely — they start at 2-person. Cala Mini is the rare option for solo apartment users, condo owners, or buyers with limited space who want authentic traditional Finnish löyly. It's one of Auroom's most popular models in the US.

What's the difference between Auroom Libera Wood and Familia?

Same five footprints (48×71 through 79×99), same Estonian build, same thermo-aspen interior, same heater compatibility. Differences: Libera Wood has a designer vertical wood-slat front panel (premium aesthetic) and a higher price tier; Familia has a more traditional horizontal wood paneling and a more accessible price tier. Pick by aesthetic preference and budget — heat experience is identical.

Is Finnmark Trinity actually a sauna, or is it a hybrid?

It's classified as a hybrid. Trinity is a single cabin that delivers far-infrared (heated panels), traditional steam (built-in steam generator), and red-light therapy (pre-installed panels) in one room. It's not a substitute for a dedicated infrared sauna OR a dedicated steam room — it's a consolidated wellness cabin that gives you all three modalities without three separate installations. Buyers either love the multi-modality approach or prefer single-modality cabins.

Does SaunaLife make indoor saunas?

One — the Model X2 (2-person Nordic Spruce indoor home sauna kit, glass front). SaunaLife's primary catalog is outdoor (barrel, cube, garden series). The X2 is their indoor entry, popular with SaunaLife loyalists who own outdoor units and want a matching indoor cabin, and with first-time Finnish sauna buyers who want an approachable premium brand without paying Auroom Libera prices.

Can I mix and match brand heaters with Auroom cabins?

Yes — Auroom cabins are heater-agnostic. You'll typically choose between HUUM (Estonian, premium aesthetic), Harvia (Finnish, broadest range), or Saunum (Estonian, climate-equalizer technology) at order based on cabin volume and feature preference. Our specialists spec the exact heater on your pricing call. You're not locked into Auroom-brand heaters.

Is there an indoor sauna brand I should avoid?

We carry the brands we believe in. The ones we don't carry are typically: budget infrared brands without low-EMF engineering or warranty support, Amazon-tier portable saunas (different product class), and a few premium brands whose dealer requirements don't fit our model. If you're researching a specific brand we don't carry and want a take, ask on the pricing call — we'll be honest about where it fits.

Why doesn't Sauna Republic carry [brand X]?

We carry brands that meet our quality, warranty, and ethics standards. The brands we don't carry typically fall into one of three categories: budget infrared brands without low-EMF engineering or warranty support; mass-market portable saunas that compete on price rather than build quality; and a handful of premium brands whose dealer policies conflict with our customer-first approach. If you're considering a specific brand we don't carry, ask on your pricing call — we'll give you an honest take on where it fits.

Can I buy an indoor sauna for commercial use?

Yes — we handle commercial installations across our brand lineup: spa, gym, hotel, wellness studio, physical therapy clinic, multi-unit residential, and corporate wellness. Commercial warranties and pricing tiers differ from residential (typically shorter warranty terms and adjusted pricing). Contact us about your project — share your space, intended usage, quantity, and timeline, and we'll work with the relevant manufacturer to spec the right configuration and pricing for commercial use.
