What is a peshtemal?

The traditional Turkish hammam cloth — flat-woven rather than looped like terry, and used in Turkish bathhouses for centuries before terry towels existed. No pile means it packs down small, dries fast, and weighs almost nothing.

What is it made of?

100% Turkish cotton, flat-woven, made in Turkey.

How is this different from your other Kassatex towels?

Completely different construction. Hammam and Pergamon are 650 GSM terry with looped pile — heavy, absorbent, slow to dry. This has no pile at all. It's a fraction of the weight, dries in a fraction of the time, and folds to almost nothing. Different tool, different job.

Does a flat-woven towel actually absorb?

Yes, though differently. Terry holds water in its loops like a sponge — high capacity, slow release. Flat-woven cotton wicks moisture across the surface and hands it to the air quickly. For a small towel you're picking up and putting down repeatedly through a session, that turnover matters more than raw capacity.

What's the best use for this in a sauna?

The face and neck cloth you keep beside you. Through a hot round you're wiping sweat off your face every few minutes, and a heavy terry hand towel becomes damp and unpleasant fast. This one sheds that moisture between wipes. Keep it on the bench next to you rather than hanging outside.

Can I use it as a cold face cloth?

Very well. Wet it with cold water and hold it against your face during a hot round — the oldest trick in sauna practice for extending your time comfortably. A flat weave wrings out almost dry with one twist, which a terry towel won't do.

Is it big enough to sit on?

No. At 18" x 28" this is a hand towel, not a bench towel. For sitting on inside the sauna you want a bath towel — our Hammam at 30" x 54" or Pergamon at 30" x 56". Bare skin on hot wood is uncomfortable, and sweat soaking into the bench shortens the timber's life.

Will it dry me off after a plunge?

Not properly. It's a hand towel and it has no pile — for stripping water off your whole body after cold immersion you want a 650 GSM bath towel. Use this for your face, hands, and the back of your neck.

Is it good for travel or a gym bag?

It's the best towel we sell for that. Flat-woven cotton folds to a fraction of the bulk of terry and weighs almost nothing. For a public bathhouse, a gym sauna, or a hotel spa, this is what goes in the bag.

What size does it come in?

One size: 18" x 28", a standard hand towel.

Is there a bath-size peshtemal towel?

Not in this listing — hand towel is the only size offered. If you want a full peshtemal bath sheet, call us at (302) 273-0861 and we'll tell you what's currently available.

What colors are available?

Taupe, Blue, and Grey. Each is a color-block design — the body stays white with a solid band of color across the lower portion.

What is the fringe?

Hand-knotted fringe along the top and bottom hems, which is the traditional peshtemal finish rather than a stitched hem. It's part of what makes the cloth read as authentic rather than as a plain flat towel.

Will the fringe fall apart in the wash?

Not if it's knotted properly, and these are. What does happen over time is that fringe tangles in the machine. Washing in a mesh laundry bag keeps it neat, and if strands do tangle you can comb them straight while damp.

How do I wash it?

Machine wash cold. Dry on low to medium heat. Do not bleach.

What about acne washes and skincare products?

This one catches people out, and it matters more here than on a bath towel because this is the cloth you use on your face. Benzoyl peroxide and hydrogen peroxide — both common in acne treatments, whitening products, and some cleansers — bleach cotton on contact and leave permanent orange or white blotches. Kassatex calls this out specifically. If you use products containing either, keep a dedicated dark towel for your face.

Should I wash it before first use?

Yes. New cotton carries a finishing residue from manufacturing that repels water, which is why a brand-new towel often seems less absorbent than an old one. One wash removes it, and flat-woven cotton also softens noticeably over the first several cycles — it starts crisper than terry and breaks in over time.

Why shouldn't I use fabric softener?

Softener leaves a waxy residue that blocks moisture from moving through the fabric. On a weave whose whole advantage is fast moisture turnover, that ruins exactly what you paid for. Skip it. If the towel ever feels stiff or stops absorbing, run it through a wash with no detergent and no softener to strip buildup.

Will it shrink?

Cotton relaxes slightly across the first few wash cycles. Washing cold and drying low-to-medium keeps that minimal, and 18" x 28" is the finished size.

Can I line-dry it?

Easily, and often faster than a dryer cycle. That's the advantage of no pile — there's very little water held in the fabric to begin with.

Will it get musty from sauna use?

Less readily than terry, because it dries faster and spends less time damp. It still isn't immune. Hang it open with airflow after every session, wash it regularly, and never leave a used towel inside the sauna cabin — the residual warmth makes it worse.

How many should I own?

Two or three. They're inexpensive, they dry fast, and a face cloth gets used more often than any other towel in a session. Having a fresh one every time is easy at this price.

Is it OEKO-TEX certified?

Yes — OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, certificate ISO25 147394 OETI. The finished textile has been tested against more than 1,000 harmful substances.

Why does certification matter on a face towel?

Because of where it goes. This is the cloth touching your face and neck, repeatedly, on skin that heat has left more permeable than usual. Verified substance testing matters more on a face cloth than on almost anything else in the range.

What's the difference between STANDARD 100 and MADE IN GREEN?

STANDARD 100 tests the finished textile for harmful substances. MADE IN GREEN includes that same testing and adds verification of the production facilities. This towel carries STANDARD 100; our Hammam towels carry the broader MADE IN GREEN label.

Can I add a monogram?

Yes, for an additional $10. Add it at checkout with the initials you want. Bear in mind that on a $13 towel, the monogram costs more than the item — it makes more sense on a set or a gift than on a single cloth.

How long does monogramming add to delivery?

Personalization adds 3–5 business days of processing on top of standard shipping, and that applies even to expedited orders.

Can I return a monogrammed towel?

Personalized items are made to order and are not returnable.

Does it coordinate with your other Kassatex textiles?

The Grey and Taupe pair naturally with our Peshtemal robes, which share the same flat-woven construction. Call us and we'll confirm what works together.

Do you supply spas, hotels, gyms, and bathhouses?

No. HSA and FSA eligibility applies to qualifying wellness equipment such as saunas and cold plunges, not to textiles.

What's the return policy?

How long does shipping take?

Towels ship FedEx Ground. Allow 3–4 business days for processing plus 1–5 days in transit, and an additional 3–5 days if you've added a monogram. Free shipping on textile orders over $100 — at $13 each, that's worth bearing in mind if you're ordering a small quantity.

Kassatex Peshtemal Turkish Hand Towel: The One You Keep on the Bench

Through a hot round you wipe your face every few minutes. A heavy terry hand towel handles the first two wipes well and then it's damp, warm, and unpleasant for the rest of the session. This is the answer to that specific problem — the traditional Turkish hammam cloth, flat-woven with no pile at all, so it sheds moisture between wipes instead of holding it. 100% Turkish cotton, made in Turkey, finished with hand-knotted fringe.

No Pile Is the Entire Design

Terry gets its absorbency from looped pile that holds water like a sponge: high capacity, slow release. Flat weaving removes the loops completely. What you get instead is a cloth that wicks moisture across its surface and hands it to the air almost immediately, weighs a fraction of what terry does, and folds down to nothing. For a small towel picked up and put down twenty times in a session, that turnover beats capacity every time.

The Cold Face Cloth Trick

Wet it with cold water and hold it against your face during a hot round. It's the oldest technique in sauna practice for extending your time comfortably, and it works far better with a flat weave than with terry — one twist wrings a peshtemal almost dry, where a terry cloth stays sodden and drips down your arm.

What It Isn't

Worth being direct. At 18" × 28" this is a hand towel, so it won't work as a bench towel — for sitting on inside the sauna you need a bath towel, and our Hammam at 30" × 54" or Pergamon at 30" × 56" are the right products. It also won't dry you off properly after a cold plunge; that job needs 650 GSM of pile. This is the third towel in a proper setup, not the first.

One Thing That Ruins Cotton

Benzoyl peroxide and hydrogen peroxide bleach cotton on contact and leave permanent orange or white blotches. How Freight Delivery Works

Large items (saunas, cold plunges, hot tubs) ship via LTL freight. Smaller items (heaters, accessories, wellness devices, Lumaflex, red light towers, robes and textiles) ship via UPS, FedEx, or USPS.

1. We ship your order. Tracking is emailed to you with the estimated delivery timeline.

2. The carrier calls you. The freight company calls to schedule your delivery appointment. You pick the date and time window.

3. Curbside delivery. Delivery is to the curb via semi-truck with liftgate (when available). You'll need a plan to move it from the curb to its final location.

4. Sign and inspect. You must be present to sign. Inspect for damage before signing — note any issues on the delivery receipt.

Unloading Your Sauna

The driver delivers to the curb only. You are responsible for moving the product to its final location. Have equipment and help arranged before delivery day.

Rent a forklift — Most common choice. Requires forklift extensions. ~$150–300/day.

Hire a tilt tow truck — Flatbed tow with tilt/slide functionality. ~$200–400.

Hire a rigging/moving crew — Professional movers with equipment. Get quotes in advance.

Tilt tow service (Dundalk only) — Available for $750. Contact us to add to your order.

Clearlight saunas ship in flat panels, not pre-assembled crates. Most can be carried inside by two people without heavy equipment. Dundalk saunas ship in crates exceeding 92" and 800–1,600 lbs — liftgate service is not available for these shipments.

Damage Claims

If your order arrives damaged, we'll get you a replacement as quickly as possible.

1. Inspect packaging for visible damage before signing.

2. Note damage on the delivery receipt — write "damaged" and have the driver sign.

3. Take photos of packaging and product damage.

4. Email photos to info@thesaunarepublic.com with your order number within 24 hours.

5. We file the claim and ship your replacement.

Damage must be reported within 24 hours of delivery with photos. Claims filed after 24 hours may not be eligible for a free replacement. Always note visible damage on the delivery receipt — even if it seems minor.

Defective Products

Warranty

Most AC-powered mats and controllers carry a 5-Year Limited Warranty. Other products typically carry a 1-year warranty.

All Dundalk products (saunas, cold plunges, accessories) are handcrafted to order in Ontario, Canada. Returns and refunds are not available. Full manufacturer warranty applies for defects.

Cancellation

Within 14 days of order — full refund, no fee.

After 14 days — $65 cancellation fee applies.

Once production begins — cannot be cancelled (typically 2+ weeks after order).

Backorder Cancellation

Orders containing backordered items are subject to a 6% cancellation fee as we are charged by our payment processor when backorders are cancelled. All lead times are estimates and subject to change.

HSA/FSA Purchases

Our standard return policy applies to all HSA/FSA purchases. Products with brand-specific exceptions follow those policies. There is no IRS requirement that HSA/FSA purchases be final sale.

HSA/FSA refunds are processed back to your original HSA/FSA card within 3–10 business days. Truemed cannot redirect refunds to a different payment method.

HSA holders: Notify your custodian to treat the original purchase as a "mistaken distribution" under IRS Notice 2004-50. Returned funds are not subject to income tax or penalties.

FSA holders: The refund goes back to your FSA plan via the original card. If your plan year has ended, the use-it-or-lose-it rule may apply. FSA holders should be especially sure of their purchase before buying.

Damage Claims

If your order arrives damaged, we will resolve it as quickly as possible.

1. Inspect packaging for visible damage before signing.

2. Note damage on delivery receipt — write "damaged" and have the driver sign.

3. Take photos of packaging and product damage.

4. Email photos to info@thesaunarepublic.com with your order number within 24 hours.

5. We handle the claim and arrange replacement.

Clearlight products: Do not refuse delivery — accept, document, and report to us. We file the freight claim and arrange replacement. Concealed damage must be reported within 15 calendar days. See Clearlight policy for full details.

Lumaflex products: Email photos within 24 hours and we arrange a replacement under the manufacturer warranty.

HealthyLine products: Report any damage within 48 hours of delivery with photos. We coordinate the replacement with HealthyLine; if the product arrived damaged or defective, replacement and shipping are covered at no cost. See HealthyLine policy for full details.

Clearlight — Returnable Accessories & Devices

2. We confirm eligibility and send return instructions within 24 hours.

3. Ship via prepaid freight — unopened, unused, original packaging, like-new condition.

4. Refund minus 25% restocking fee within 5–7 business days after inspection.

Applies to: Halo One device, Aroma One, Red Light Towers, VRT, UV Wand, Recliner Chair, Ergonomic Backrest. All other Clearlight products are final sale.

Lumaflex Devices

1. Email info@thesaunarepublic.com with your order number within 30 days of delivery.

2. We send return instructions and return address within 24 hours.

3. Ship the product — can be opened and used, must be in full working condition with all original components. Customer pays shipping.

4. Full refund (no restocking fee) within 5–7 business days after receipt.

HealthyLine Heating Mats & Accessories

1. Email info@thesaunarepublic.com with your order number within 90 days of delivery.

2. We send return instructions and return address within 24 hours.

3. Ship the product — may be opened and used, must show only normal wear with all accessories included. Customer pays shipping.

4. Refund within 5–10 business days after the item is received and inspected. No restocking fee unless the item is returned damaged, stained, or with an odor (20–50%).

Warranty claims are filed directly with HealthyLine. Clearance, final-sale, and used bedding items are non-returnable.

Fine Print

Standard return policy (30-day, unused, full refund) applies to all products unless a brand-specific exception is listed. Clearlight saunas, Cold Plunge, Curve Dome, PEMF Mat, consumables, and hygiene items are final sale. Returnable Clearlight accessories carry a 25% restocking fee. Lumaflex devices may be opened and used; no restocking fee. HealthyLine heating mats and accessories carry a 90-day trial (may be opened and used; no restocking fee unless returned damaged, stained, or with odor, in which case 20–50% applies); HealthyLine warranty claims are filed directly with the manufacturer. All Dundalk products are final sale.

All returns require prior authorization. Unauthorized returns will not be accepted. Refunds processed to original payment method within 5–7 business days (HealthyLine returns within 5–10 business days after inspection). HSA/FSA refunds go back to the original HSA/FSA card within 3–10 business days.

Shop Pay Installment purchases are final sale — no returns or refunds. Backorder cancellations are subject to a 6% fee.

Description

Kassatex Peshtemal Turkish Hand Towel: The One You Keep on the Bench

Through a hot round you wipe your face every few minutes. A heavy terry hand towel handles the first two wipes well and then it's damp, warm, and unpleasant for the rest of the session. This is the answer to that specific problem — the traditional Turkish hammam cloth, flat-woven with no pile at all, so it sheds moisture between wipes instead of holding it. 100% Turkish cotton, made in Turkey, finished with hand-knotted fringe.

No Pile Is the Entire Design

Terry gets its absorbency from looped pile that holds water like a sponge: high capacity, slow release. Flat weaving removes the loops completely. What you get instead is a cloth that wicks moisture across its surface and hands it to the air almost immediately, weighs a fraction of what terry does, and folds down to nothing. For a small towel picked up and put down twenty times in a session, that turnover beats capacity every time.

The Cold Face Cloth Trick

Wet it with cold water and hold it against your face during a hot round. It's the oldest technique in sauna practice for extending your time comfortably, and it works far better with a flat weave than with terry — one twist wrings a peshtemal almost dry, where a terry cloth stays sodden and drips down your arm.

What It Isn't

Worth being direct. At 18" × 28" this is a hand towel, so it won't work as a bench towel — for sitting on inside the sauna you need a bath towel, and our Hammam at 30" × 54" or Pergamon at 30" × 56" are the right products. It also won't dry you off properly after a cold plunge; that job needs 650 GSM of pile. This is the third towel in a proper setup, not the first.

Hand-Knotted Fringe, Which Is the Traditional Finish

The fringe along the top and bottom hems is knotted by hand rather than machine-stitched, which is how peshtemal has always been finished. It's the detail that makes the cloth read as authentic rather than as a plain flat towel. Practical note: wash it in a mesh bag and the fringe stays neat rather than tangling in the drum.

The Towel That Goes in the Bag

Flat-woven cotton packs to a fraction of the bulk of terry and weighs almost nothing. For a public bathhouse, a gym sauna, a hotel spa, or travelling with your routine, this is what you actually take. At $13 it's also the easiest thing in our range to own several of.

OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, certificate ISO25 147394 OETI — the finished textile tested against more than a thousand harmful substances. That matters more on a face cloth than on almost anything else we sell: this is the fabric going onto skin that heat has left more permeable than usual, repeatedly, throughout a session.

One Thing That Ruins Cotton

Benzoyl peroxide and hydrogen peroxide bleach cotton on contact and leave permanent orange or white blotches. Both are common in acne treatments, whitening products, and some cleansers — and since this is a face towel, the risk is higher here than on a bath towel. If you use products containing either, keep a dedicated dark cloth for your face.
