100% cotton, built with two different faces — a piece-dyed waffle weave on the front and a soft zero-twist cotton terry on the back, at 600 GSM.

Because the two faces of a towel do different jobs. The side against your skin needs pile to pull water off you, which is what the zero-twist terry back does. The side facing the air needs structure and surface area so that moisture can evaporate, which is what the waffle front does. Building it in two faces means neither side is a compromise.

Cotton yarn is normally twisted tightly during spinning because twist adds strength — it also flattens the fiber and closes off its surface. Zero-twist leaves the fibers largely untwisted, exposing far more surface area. The result is a plusher hand feel and faster absorption per second of contact than conventional terry of the same weight.

Grams per square meter — the weight of the fabric. At 600 these are the lightest terry-backed towels we carry, sitting below our 650 GSM Hammam and Pergamon and well below the 800 GSM Atelier. Kassatex calls it medium weight, and lighter is deliberate here: it's what lets the towel turn moisture around quickly.

Both use waffle, but differently. Hammam is an allover waffle-terry — one hybrid fabric throughout, 650 GSM, made in Turkey, with MADE IN GREEN certification. Canal is two distinct faces bonded into one towel, 600 GSM, imported, with STANDARD 100. Canal's terry back is arguably better against skin; Hammam's Turkish manufacture and broader certification are the counterweight.

This one, on construction alone. A bench towel gets sat on wet, set aside, and sat on again twenty minutes later — so you want absorbency against your skin and fast release to the air, which is exactly what a two-faced towel gives you. The Hammam is a close second and has the stronger certification if that matters more to you.

Yes — unlike a robe, a towel belongs inside the room. You sit on it. In Finnish practice that isn't optional: bare skin on hot wood is uncomfortable, sweat soaks into the bench and shortens the life of the timber, and in any shared sauna a bench towel is the basic hygiene standard.

Terry side up, waffle side down. The terry face is the absorbent one and it should be against you; the waffle face gets airflow from the bench side and helps the towel recover between rounds. It's a small thing that makes a real difference over a long session.

At 30" × 60" it's the longest bath towel we carry — four inches longer than our Pergamon and Atelier, six longer than the Hammam. On a lower bench that extra length is the difference between a towel that stays put and one that creeps as you move.

Three, doing different jobs. A bath towel to sit on inside the room. A second bath towel kept dry outside for after the plunge or shower. And a hand towel for wiping sweat off your face and neck between rounds. Trying to make one towel do all three is how you end up sitting on something soaked.

Adequately, but it isn't the best tool for that job. After cold immersion the priority is raw absorbent capacity, and our 800 GSM Atelier towels strip a plunge off you in one pass where a 600 GSM towel takes two. Use Canal on the bench and something heavier for the dry-off.

Yes, and the waffle face helps. Saturated air overwhelms dense terry quickly; a waffle structure handles humidity better and recovers once you're back in ambient air. Of our terry-backed towels, this is the one we'd take into a steam session.

Bath Towel at 30" × 60", Hand Towel at 20" × 30", and Washcloth at 13" × 13". Both the bath and hand towels run larger than our other collections.

At 20" × 30" it's two inches wider and two longer than the 18" × 28" standard across the rest of our range. For wiping sweat off your face and neck through a session, more cloth is genuinely useful — you get more dry surface before you need to turn it over.

Not in this collection. Our Atelier 800-Gram towels include a 34" × 66" bath sheet, and that's the only one in our Kassatex range.

Mushroom, White, and Grey.

The fabric is dyed after it's woven rather than the yarn being dyed before. It produces more uniform color across a finished piece, which is why Kassatex uses it here — a waffle structure has a lot of surface variation and piece dyeing keeps the tone even across the grid.

Grey, practically. Hard water and repeated use eventually cause mineral staining that White will show and Grey will hide. Mushroom sits between the two and reads warm against cedar or hemlock.

Yes, sewn in. That matters more for sauna use than in a bathroom — a towel that hangs fully open dries between rounds, and a sewn-in loop means you can hang it on any hook by the cabin door.

Imported. Kassatex doesn't publish the country of manufacture for this collection, unlike their Turkish cotton towels which are made in Turkey.

Machine wash cold. Dry on low to medium heat. Do not bleach.

Not if you follow the care instructions. The waffle is woven into the fabric rather than pressed onto it, so it doesn't crush the way an applied finish would. High heat is what degrades it — wash cold, dry low to medium, and it holds its structure.

This one catches people out. Benzoyl peroxide and hydrogen peroxide — both common in acne treatments, whitening products, and some cleansers — bleach cotton on contact and leave permanent orange or white blotches. Kassatex calls this out specifically. If you use products containing either, keep a dedicated dark towel for your face.

Yes. New towels carry a finishing residue from manufacturing that repels water, which is why a brand-new towel often seems less absorbent than an old one. One wash removes it and opens the loops on the terry back.

Softener coats cotton fibers with a waxy residue that fills the terry loops and clogs the waffle recesses — on a two-faced towel it degrades both halves at once. It makes towels feel plusher and work worse. Skip it. If they ever feel stiff or stop absorbing, run them through a wash with no detergent and no softener to strip buildup.

Cotton relaxes slightly across the first few wash cycles. Washing cold and drying low-to-medium keeps it minimal, and the dimensions listed are the finished sizes.

Dry them fully, every time. Sweat plus warm damp cotton left folded is exactly what odor-causing bacteria want, and once it sets into a towel it's stubborn. Hang them fully open with airflow after every session — the waffle face makes that faster than with a plain terry towel — and never leave a used towel inside the sauna cabin.

More often than bathroom towels. A bench towel absorbs sweat rather than clean shower water, so treat it more like gym kit — every two or three sessions, and immediately if it picks up any smell.

For one person saunaing a few times a week, four bath towels covers a rotation given these dry faster than heavier options. Add two of the larger hand towels for face and neck duty.

Yes — OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, certificate 21.HUS.51051 issued by Hohenstein. The finished textile has been tested against more than 1,000 harmful substances.

STANDARD 100 tests the finished textile for harmful substances. MADE IN GREEN includes that same testing and adds verification of the production facilities. These carry STANDARD 100; our Hammam and Atelier towels carry the broader MADE IN GREEN label.

Because of when it touches you. Heat opens pores and raises skin permeability, and a bench towel is in contact with a large area of that skin for twenty minutes at a stretch. Verified substance testing is worth more here than on a towel used once after a shower.
