Dundalk Leisurecraft CT Barrel Sauna
The barrel is the shape most people picture when they picture a sauna, and Dundalk has been building them in rural Ontario since 2004. The round profile isn't styling. It puts the ceiling closer to the benches than a square room does, so heat gathers where you sit instead of pooling above your head. Less air to heat means a shorter warm-up and a more even temperature bench to bench.
Three sizes, all in Eastern White Cedar, all taking wood or electric heat. Harmony seats four in a compact 84-inch barrel. Serenity seats four to six and adds an 18-inch covered front porch. Tranquility seats six with the longest interior in the range.
Eastern White Cedar, built for outdoors
Every barrel is Grade-A Eastern White Cedar — lighter in colour than western red, with tighter knots and a cleaner grain. Cedar resists rot, decay and insects naturally, which is what lets these saunas live outside through a Canadian winter without a shelter over them.
The staves are solid single-stave bevels with no tenon joints along their length. No joint means no seam to open up as the wood moves through the seasons.
Bands that work with the wood
Cedar takes on moisture in humid weather and gives it up in dry weather. A barrel sauna is designed around that rather than fighting it — the staves expand into T6061 marine-grade aluminum bands, tightening the barrel as they swell.
The bands are adjustable. Tighten them once after assembly, usually within the first month, then check occasionally with a ¾-inch wrench. That is the entire maintenance story on the structure.
Benches you can lie down on
The benches are 20 inches wide and 19 inches high, running parallel along both side walls with a flat cedar floor between them. Twenty inches is the difference between sitting upright and stretching out properly.
Serenity and Tranquility give you 79 inches of interior height and 83 inches of width. Harmony is a genuinely smaller barrel at 76 inches wide and 72.5 inches high inside — worth knowing before you choose, because it is not simply a shorter version of the other two.
Halfmoon panorama windows
Every barrel includes a bronze tempered glass door and window as standard. The halfmoon option adds two vertical half-moon windows to the front and one horizontal half-moon to the back.
It changes the room. Without it you are in a warm wooden space. With it, the far end of the barrel becomes a window. If the sauna is going somewhere with a view, this is the option to take.
Wood or electric
All three sizes accept either. Wood-fired means no electrical work, no permit and no trench across the garden — which matters when the sauna is going somewhere remote. Electric means you press a button and walk away, which suits a sauna near the house used on weeknights.
Recommended electric heater size is 6 kW for Harmony and 7.5 kW for Serenity and Tranquility. Electric installations require 240 V and a 30–50 amp circuit depending on the heater, and final hookup must be done by a certified electrician — this is a warranty condition, not a suggestion.
We quote the heater, chimney, heat shielding and stones as one package sized to the cabin, so nothing arrives missing.
Foundation
The barrel needs a level base with a slight slope to the rear for drainage. A concrete pad, wood deck, patio stone or crushed stone all work. Harmony needs a 6.5 by 6.5 foot footprint; Serenity and Tranquility need more depth. Get the base right before delivery — it is far easier than correcting it afterwards.

Safety and Installation
Foundation. Level base with a slight rear slope for drainage. Concrete pad, wood deck, patio stone or crushed stone.
Wood-fired. Wood stoves require correct clearances, a floor heat shield, a back wall shield and a properly installed chimney. Clearances are set by the stove manufacturer and are not optional. Local codes may require inspection.
Electric. 240 V, 30–50 amp depending on heater. Final hookup by a certified electrician is required for safety, performance and warranty validation. Never run a sauna heater on an extension cord or shared circuit.
Ventilation. Air inlet and outlet vents must remain unobstructed.
Band maintenance. Tighten the aluminum bands after assembly, typically within the first month, then check periodically with a ¾-inch wrench.
Warranty
- Sauna — 5-year limited warranty against defects in materials or workmanship
