Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes does the roll-up mat come in?
Two: 19¾" × 19¾" and 31" × 20". The square is the single-step size; the rectangle covers a wider shower base or a full changing spot.
How does it roll?
The teak slats are strung together rather than fixed to a rigid frame, so the mat curls into a bundle you can carry with one hand. Unroll it and it lies flat again.
What is it made of?
Top-grade solid teak, finished with a water-based sealer. Solid wood throughout — not veneer, not composite.
Roll-up or rigid — which should I get?
If the mat will live permanently in one spot, the rigid framed version is the more solid piece and sits higher off the floor. If it needs to move, store, hang, or travel, get this one. Same wood, same finish, different job.
Why would I want one that rolls?
Three practical reasons. It hangs to dry with air on both faces instead of sitting flat on a floor that's still wet. It moves outdoors for summer and comes in for winter. And when it needs a scrub you take it to the water rather than working on your knees.
Will it slip on wet tile?
It has rubber footing underneath that grips wet surfaces. On very smooth polished stone, check it in position before you rely on it — no mat is completely immovable on a mirror-finish floor.
Will it scratch my floor?
No. The rubber footing keeps the wood off the floor. Safe on finished hardwood, polished stone, and tile.
Where does the water go?
Through the gaps between the slats. Your feet contact dry wood rather than a saturated surface, and the water runs away underneath instead of pooling on top.
Can I put it inside my sauna?
We don't recommend it. The water-based sealer isn't specified by the manufacturer for sustained high-heat exposure, and we'd rather tell you that than guess. Put it just outside the sauna door, where you step out.
What about a steam room?
Fine. Steam rooms run far cooler than saunas and this mat is built for permanent humidity.
Where should I put it?
Wherever the water lands. The most common spots in a hot-cold setup are the cold plunge exit, the floor of an outdoor shower, and the shower base itself. It also works on a pool deck, in a changing area, and at a patio entrance.
Can I use it in a boat or RV?
Yes — that's one of the reasons this version exists. Teak is a marine wood, and a mat that rolls fits spaces where a fixed one can't. It stows in a locker and comes out when you need it.
Can it live outdoors permanently?
Yes. Teak handles rain, sun, and freeze cycles without structural damage. It will change color, which is covered below.
Will the color change?
Outdoors and untreated, yes — teak weathers from honey golden brown to a silver-grey patina over several months of sun exposure. It's a surface effect only and doesn't weaken the wood. Indoors and out of direct sun it holds its color far longer.
How do I keep the original color?
Clean it occasionally with mild soap and water, and apply a teak sealer or oil periodically. If you'd rather not maintain it, letting it grey out is a perfectly legitimate choice — plenty of people prefer the weathered look.
How do I clean it?
Mild soap and water with a soft brush, scrubbing along the grain. Because it rolls, you can take it outside or to a utility sink instead of cleaning it in place. Rinse and let it dry with air on both faces. Don't pressure wash — it raises the grain.
Will it get moldy?
Teak's natural oils resist mold, mildew, and bacteria better than almost any other wood, which is why it's used on boat decks. What causes problems is a mat that never gets to dry — so hang or stand it after heavy use rather than leaving it flat on a wet floor. The fact that it rolls makes that easy.
Will chlorine or salt water damage it?
Neither will destroy it, but repeated exposure accelerates surface greying and dries the wood. Rinse with fresh water after heavy exposure, and treat it more often if you want to keep the color.
Does it need assembly?
No. It ships ready to use with the rubber footing installed.
How heavy is it?
9 lb shipping weight for the 19¾" square, 17 lb for the 31" × 20". Light enough to lift, roll, and hang without effort.
Are small cracks in the wood a defect?
Fine cracks in the end grain are normal in solid teak and are specifically excluded from the warranty. Solid wood moves with humidity and temperature — that's the trade-off for real timber over a composite. They don't affect strength or lifespan.
What does the warranty cover?
Two years for residential use, one year for commercial, covering manufacturing defects and workmanship. Small end-grain cracks are excluded.
Can I use it in a commercial space?
Yes — spa wet areas, locker rooms, and pool decks are standard placements. Note the warranty is one year on commercial installations rather than two.
Do you handle multi-unit orders?
Yes. We work with spas, hotels, gyms, and wellness studios on volume orders with project support and repeat-order scheduling. Call (302) 273-0861 and ask for project support.
Where is it made?
Indonesia. Anderson Teak manufactures its own furniture rather than sourcing from third parties.
What should I pair it with?
A teak corner stool if you want seating in the shower, and a cotton bath mat for the dry step-off beyond the wet zone. Teak drains the water; cotton absorbs what's left.

Ground processing — Please allow 3–4 business days for ground orders to be processed before they ship.
Order cut-off — Orders placed after 8:00 AM EST are processed the next business day.
Monogrammed items — Allow an additional 3–5 business days of processing time. This applies to expedited orders as well.
PO Boxes, APO & FPO — Textile orders cannot be shipped to PO Boxes or to APO/FPO military addresses. Please provide a street address at checkout.
Mixed orders — If your order includes a sauna, cold plunge, heater, or accessory, the whole order ships free regardless of the textile subtotal.
Textile orders ship separately from sauna and cold plunge shipments and may arrive on a different date, even when purchased together.
How Freight Delivery Works
Large items (saunas, cold plunges, hot tubs) ship via LTL freight. Smaller items (heaters, accessories, wellness devices, Lumaflex, red light towers, robes and textiles) ship via UPS, FedEx, or USPS.
1. We ship your order. Tracking is emailed to you with the estimated delivery timeline.
2. The carrier calls you. The freight company calls to schedule your delivery appointment. You pick the date and time window.
3. Curbside delivery. Delivery is to the curb via semi-truck with liftgate (when available). You'll need a plan to move it from the curb to its final location.
4. Sign and inspect. You must be present to sign. Inspect for damage before signing — note any issues on the delivery receipt.
Unloading Your Sauna
The driver delivers to the curb only. You are responsible for moving the product to its final location. Have equipment and help arranged before delivery day.
Rent a forklift — Most common choice. Requires forklift extensions. ~$150–300/day.
Hire a tilt tow truck — Flatbed tow with tilt/slide functionality. ~$200–400.
Hire a rigging/moving crew — Professional movers with equipment. Get quotes in advance.
Tilt tow service (Dundalk only) — Available for $750. Contact us to add to your order.
Clearlight saunas ship in flat panels, not pre-assembled crates. Most can be carried inside by two people without heavy equipment. Dundalk saunas ship in crates exceeding 92" and 800–1,600 lbs — liftgate service is not available for these shipments.
Damage Claims
If your order arrives damaged, we'll get you a replacement as quickly as possible.
1. Inspect packaging for visible damage before signing.
2. Note damage on the delivery receipt — write "damaged" and have the driver sign.
3. Take photos of packaging and product damage.
4. Email photos to info@thesaunarepublic.com with your order number within 24 hours.
5. We file the claim and ship your replacement.
Damage must be reported within 24 hours of delivery with photos. Claims filed after 24 hours may not be eligible for a free replacement. Always note visible damage on the delivery receipt — even if it seems minor.

Once large items ship, we cannot change addresses or schedule specific delivery dates. If an item is returned due to an incorrect address, you're responsible for shipping costs both ways. If freight delivery fails because the carrier couldn't access your property, it's treated as a return per our return policy.

Defective Products

The defective unit must be received back before the replacement is issued.
If a product arrives damaged, defective, or non-working, replacement and shipping are covered at no cost. If damage is caused by improper use, the customer is responsible for the replacement and shipping.
Warranty
Most AC-powered mats and controllers carry a 5-Year Limited Warranty. Other products typically carry a 1-year warranty.

Dundalk Canadian Timber
All Sales Final — No Returns
All Dundalk products (saunas, cold plunges, accessories) are handcrafted to order in Ontario, Canada. Returns and refunds are not available. Full manufacturer warranty applies for defects.
Cancellation
Within 14 days of order — full refund, no fee.
After 14 days — $65 cancellation fee applies.
Once production begins — cannot be cancelled (typically 2+ weeks after order).
Backorder Cancellation
Orders containing backordered items are subject to a 6% cancellation fee as we are charged by our payment processor when backorders are cancelled. All lead times are estimates and subject to change.
HSA/FSA Purchases
Our standard return policy applies to all HSA/FSA purchases. Products with brand-specific exceptions follow those policies. There is no IRS requirement that HSA/FSA purchases be final sale.
HSA/FSA refunds are processed back to your original HSA/FSA card within 3–10 business days. Truemed cannot redirect refunds to a different payment method.
HSA holders: Notify your custodian to treat the original purchase as a "mistaken distribution" under IRS Notice 2004-50. Returned funds are not subject to income tax or penalties.
FSA holders: The refund goes back to your FSA plan via the original card. If your plan year has ended, the use-it-or-lose-it rule may apply. FSA holders should be especially sure of their purchase before buying.
Damage Claims
