That heritage shows in their approach to steam quality: HUUM heaters use minimal metal in the firebox so the majority of radiant heat comes from the stones, not the chassis.

The technical standout is temperature range. HUUM heaters are SGS-certified rather than UL-listed, which means they can reach up to 230°F — well above the 194°F cap that UL-listed competitors are limited to. HUUM DROP — Wall-Mounted

The DROP is HUUM's most popular model and the only wall-mounted heater in their lineup. The teardrop-shaped stainless steel cage holds 122 lbs of stones — substantially more than most wall-mounted competitors — while keeping the sauna floor completely clear. It mounts directly to the wall and comes in four power options covering saunas from small home builds up to mid-size residential rooms.

The design won attention for its water-drop silhouette that doubles as a functional stone basket. Stones are fully exposed across the surface area, which encourages water pouring for steam (löyly) and ensures heat comes primarily from stone mass rather than metal. At 15.4" wide by 13.2" deep, it takes up less wall space than most competitors while holding significantly more stone.

Best for: home saunas where floor space is limited, clean wall-mounted aesthetics, saunas under 530 cubic feet.

If you're building a standard 4×6 or 5×7 home sauna with 7-foot ceilings, the DROP 6kW or 7.5kW covers the most common range. The 4.5kW only makes sense for very small builds (think single-person or compact 2-person rooms), while the 9kW handles larger residential spaces comfortably.

HUUM CLIFF — Freestanding Slim

The CLIFF is HUUM's slim tower heater — a vertical column design that offers the smallest floor footprint of any freestanding model in the lineup. The standard CLIFF models (6kW, 9kW, 10.5kW) stand on the floor and hold 165 lbs of stones, while the CLIFF Mini (3.5kW) is a wall-mounted variant designed for compact saunas.

The CLIFF's distinguishing feature is its narrow profile. At just 10.6" × 10.6" at the base (the Mini is even smaller at 6.75" × 11.5"), it tucks into corners and tight spaces better than any other freestanding option. The trade-off compared to the HIVE Mini is stone capacity — 165 lbs versus 330 lbs — which means shorter steam retention between water pours.

Best for: tight layouts where floor space is at a premium, modern minimalist aesthetic, saunas that need a freestanding heater but can't spare much room.

The CLIFF 10.5kW is HUUM's most powerful slim-tower option for large residential saunas up to 600 adjusted cubic feet. It does require a UKU extension box for the controller wiring, so factor that into your budget — Get Pricing.

HUUM HIVE Mini — Freestanding Cylindrical

The HIVE Mini is where HUUM's stone-forward design philosophy really shines. This cylindrical heater holds 330 lbs of stones — double the CLIFF and nearly triple the DROP — in an 18.1" diameter footprint. The beehive-inspired cage keeps most of the stone surface exposed for water pouring, and the integrated air tunnel channels heat efficiently through the stone mass to protect the heating elements and extend their lifespan.

At 330 lbs of stone, the HIVE Mini produces softer, longer-lasting steam than any other HUUM residential model. More stone mass means the heater stores more thermal energy, which translates to gentler löyly that doesn't spike and drop with each water pour. If steam quality is your top priority and you have the floor space, the HIVE Mini is the strongest residential pick in the lineup.

Best for: steam enthusiasts who want maximum stone mass, mid-to-large saunas, buyers who prioritize löyly quality over compact size.

All three HIVE Mini models share the same dimensions (18.1" diameter × 29.5" height) and 330 lb stone capacity. The air tunnel comes pre-installed. Like the DROP, the only difference between models is the heating element power and the corresponding room size range.

HUUM CORE — Bench-Embeddable

The CORE is HUUM's most design-forward heater. It can stand freely on the floor or embed directly into your sauna bench, with the cylindrical stone basket protruding above the bench surface. That bench-embedding capability makes the CORE unique in the residential market — it effectively hides the heater body while keeping the stones accessible for water pouring at a natural, comfortable height.

With 66 lbs of stone capacity, the CORE holds the least amount of stone in the HUUM lineup. But it compensates with efficient internal airflow that distributes heat quickly throughout the sauna room. The stone basket is open enough for generous water pouring, and the compact design has minimal safety distances (1.5" to combustible materials with the aluminum case), giving you more flexibility in where and how you install it.

Which HUUM Heater Is Right for Your Sauna?

Choosing the right HUUM model comes down to three factors: how your sauna is built (room size), how you want the heater mounted, and how much steam quality matters to your sessions.

Start with room size

Calculate your sauna's adjusted cubic feet: width × length × height in feet. Add 20% for each non-wood surface — glass doors, tile walls, and stone surfaces absorb more heat and effectively make your sauna "bigger" from the heater's perspective. A 5×7×7 all-wood sauna is 245 cu ft. Add a glass door and you're at roughly 294 adjusted cu ft.

Then decide on mounting style

Wall-mounted (saves all floor space): DROP is your only option. Available from 4.5kW to 9kW covering rooms up to 530 cu ft. This is the right choice for most standard home saunas.

Freestanding (floor placement): Choose between CLIFF (slim tower, 165 lbs stones) and HIVE Mini (cylindrical, 330 lbs stones). CLIFF wins on footprint, HIVE Mini wins on steam quality.

Bench-embedded (custom builds): CORE is your only option. Hides the heater body in the bench structure. Requires planning during the build phase — not something you can retrofit easily.

HUUM UKU Controller — What You Need to Know

Every HUUM electric heater requires a UKU controller to operate — it's not optional and it's not included with the heater. This is the single biggest "hidden cost" that catches first-time HUUM buyers off guard. Budget for the controller from the start.

The upgrade from Local to Wi-Fi is worth it for most buyers. The ability to start your sauna from your phone — while you're still at work, on the drive home, or from the couch — means the sauna is ready when you are. HUUM heaters take 30–60 minutes to fully heat depending on room size and insulation, so remote start eliminates the waiting game entirely.

The UKU controller is typically installed outside the sauna room on an adjacent wall. It can manage temperature (up to 230°F), session timer, and can also integrate with sauna lights and ventilation if your build supports it.
