Because stone mass is the point of the Spirit design, independent of output. All three Spirit models share the same 110 lb capacity — the kW rating determines how large a room it can heat, while the stone mass determines the character of the steam. It's what lets a modest 6 kW heater deliver a substantial löyly.

The Spirit is designed around rounded olivine, both for airflow through the tall stone column and for the look — the rounded stones are part of the heater's visual identity. Use R-991 rather than the split-face stones sold for the KIP series.

Only proper sauna stones. Never river rock, granite, or decorative landscape stone — ordinary rock can crack or explode when water hits it at temperature.

Rinse them first, then stack loosely so air moves freely between them. Never wedge them tight or force them around the elements. The manual shows the correct arrangement, and packing too densely restricts airflow and shortens element life.

Inspect them once a year. They break down with repeated heating and cooling, and crumbling stones choke airflow. Restack as they settle, replace when they start falling apart. Cheapest thing you can do to extend the heater's life.
