Planning a wellness installation?
Sauna Republic partners with commercial clients on project-based installations — from single-unit boutique studios to multi-unit hotel rollouts. Dedicated project managers, direct-from-manufacturer pricing, and full commercial warranty coverage.
It's an 8 kW wall-mounted electric sauna heater in black steel, with no onboard controls — it runs from a separate Xenio wall panel. The KIP series is Harvia's practical workhorse line: industrial-grade serviceable elements, direct rock-to-element contact, and a straightforward install.
What size sauna does it heat?
Rooms from 250 to 425 cubic feet. That's the manufacturer's rating and it's worth staying inside it — an undersized heater runs flat out and wears early, an oversized one short-cycles and never settles.
How do I work out my room volume?
Length × width × height in feet. A 7' × 7' room with a 7' ceiling is 343 cubic feet, right in the middle of this heater's range. If you're near either end of the band, send us your dimensions and we'll check it properly.
Does glass in my sauna change the sizing?
Yes. Glass sheds heat faster than insulated timber, so a glass-fronted room behaves like a larger one. Tell us your glass area before you order and we'll size against it rather than raw volume.
What's the difference between the KIP80W and the KIP80B?
Controls, and nothing else. The W has no onboard controls and requires a separate Xenio wall panel, sold separately. The B has its controls built into the heater. Same 8 kW output, same room range, same body, same stone capacity.
Which should I choose, W or B?
The B is simpler and cheaper all-in if you're happy setting the sauna at the heater itself. The W costs less as a unit but needs the controller on top, so it lands higher — what you get for that is a wall panel outside the hot zone, digital control, and timer functions. If you want to set the sauna without reaching into a hot room, take the W.
Which controller do I need?
The Xenio CX170, single-phase version, is the specified control for this heater. Ask us and we'll quote heater and controller together so nothing arrives half-finished.
Can I use a CX30 or CX45 instead?
Those are specified for the Club, Spirit, Cilindro and Virta series rather than the KIP. Send us your heater part number and we'll confirm the right controller — this isn't a place to guess, because a mismatched controller either won't work or won't be covered.
Does it have Wi-Fi?
Ask us about Wi-Fi capability with the CX170 pairing before you buy. If app control and scheduling are important to you, tell us up front — there are heaters in the Harvia range built specifically around that, and we'd rather point you at the right one than have you discover a limitation afterwards.
What electrical service does it need?
240V single phase, drawing 33.3 amps on a 40-amp line fuse. It's hardwired — no plug. A three-phase version is also available at 208V if that's what your building has.
Can I run it on my existing sauna circuit?
Only if it's rated for 33.3 amps on a 40-amp breaker. If you're replacing a 4.5 kW or 6 kW heater, your existing circuit very likely isn't big enough and will need upgrading. Send us a photo of your breaker and the old heater's rating plate and we'll tell you before you spend anything.
Do I need a GFCI breaker?
No, and this matters. Harvia heaters should not be run on GFCI — it causes nuisance tripping and voids the warranty. If your electrician suggests one, point them at the installation manual before anything gets wired.
Can my electrician install it?
Yes, any licensed electrician can. Give them the manual before they start — the circuit requirements and the no-GFCI note are both in it, and it saves a return visit.
What are the dimensions?
16" wide × 11" deep × 24" high (410 × 280 × 600 mm).
How much does it weigh?
30.4 lbs empty. With 44 lbs of stones loaded it's around 75 lbs on the wall, so it needs to be mounted into solid framing rather than just cladding.
What is the dual wall construction?
The black KIP heaters have a double-skinned casing that keeps the outer surface cooler to the touch than a single-wall heater. Worth knowing if the sauna will be used by children, or if the layout means people pass close to the heater.
How much clearance does it need?
Minimum clearances to walls, benches and ceiling are in the installation manual and they're a fire-safety requirement, not a suggestion. Check them before you finalise bench placement — moving a bench afterwards is far more work than moving it on paper.
Where should it go in the room?
Conventionally on the wall by the door, so heat rises across the benches rather than straight up the wall behind you. Layout genuinely affects how the room feels, so if you're building from scratch, ask us before you frame it.
Are stones included?
No. The KIP80W needs one box of Harvia AC3000 split-face stones, 5–10 cm, ordered separately. The heater will not run safely without them.
How many boxes do I need?
One box covers the 44 lb stone capacity. Harvia suggest buying a second so you can hand-pick the best-fitting pieces, though that's optional and adds freight on something heavy.
Can I use rounded stones instead?
The KIP is specified for split-face AC3000. The rounded R-991 stones are designed for the Spirit series and its much larger stone column. Stick to what the manual specifies.
Can I use any stones?
Only proper sauna stones. Never river rock, granite, or decorative landscape stone — ordinary rock can crack or explode when water hits it at temperature.
How do I load the stones?
Rinse them first, then stack loosely so air moves freely between them — never wedge them tight or force them around the elements. The manual shows the correct arrangement. Packing too densely restricts airflow and shortens element life.
How often do stones need replacing?
Inspect them once a year. They break down with repeated heating and cooling, and crumbling stones choke airflow through the heater. Restack as they settle, replace when they start falling apart. It's the cheapest thing you can do to extend the life of the heater.
How long does it take to heat up?
Typically 30 to 45 minutes for a well-insulated room in its size range, though a cold room in winter takes longer.
How hot does it get?
Maximum setting is 194°F (90°C), a traditional Finnish sauna temperature. Most people run between 160 and 185°F.
Can I pour water on it?
Yes — that's the point of a traditional heater. Ladle water over the stones for löyly. Plain water, a ladleful at a time, never poured directly onto the elements.
Can I add essential oils?
Only products made for sauna use, diluted in the water bucket rather than poured neat on the stones. Undiluted oils can scorch, stain the stones, and in some cases ignite.
What does "direct rock-to-element contact" mean?
The stones sit directly against the heating elements rather than being separated by a shield. Heat transfers into the stone mass more efficiently, which is what gives a traditional heater its steam response when you ladle water.
Can the elements be replaced?
Yes. Harvia builds the KIP with industrial-grade serviceable elements, and parts are stocked across the US. That's a real advantage over heaters that have to be replaced whole when one element fails.
What is it made of?
Black steel with the dual-wall construction described above. The elements are industrial grade and serviceable rather than sealed.
Does it come in stainless steel?
Yes — the KIP80W is available in stainless steel as well as black. Same heater, same specification, different finish, and the stainless version is slightly cheaper.
What's included?
The heater, the installation and operation manual, and the warranty. Stones, the Xenio controller and any wiring materials are separate.
What's the warranty?
The IDM lists different terms for the black and stainless versions of this heater — one year limited on the black, two years on the stainless. Ask us for the current written terms on the exact finish you're buying and we'll send them to you before you order.
Can I use it in a commercial sauna?
The black version carries a one-year commercial warranty. If this is going into a gym, spa, hotel or club, tell us — commercial installations have different terms and often different heater recommendations, and we handle those projects regularly.
Is it certified for North America?
Yes — UL listed, and it also carries CE and EAC marks. Your electrical inspector will want to see the UL listing.
Where is it made?
Designed, engineered and manufactured in Finland.
How does it compare to the KIP60W?
Same heater, one step down in output. The 6 kW covers 170 to 300 cubic feet against this one's 250 to 425, and draws 25 amps against 33.3. If your room is under 300 cubic feet, the 60W is the right choice and the smaller circuit will save you money on the electrical side.
How does it compare to the Spirit series?
Different products for different buyers. The Spirit offers genuine remote starting, twin safety sensors, and 110 lbs of stone for a much softer steam — at a considerably higher price and a shorter warranty. The KIP is the practical choice: simpler, cheaper, serviceable, and it does the fundamental job very well.
Should I just buy the biggest one?
No. Match the heater to the room. Too much output means the heater reaches temperature and shuts off before the stones are properly charged, which gives you a hot room with weak steam — the opposite of what you want. It also means a bigger circuit and a bigger electrical bill.
Will it replace my existing heater?
Usually, if you're matching output. Going like-for-like off a working 8 kW is generally straightforward, but confirm your existing circuit is 240V on a 40-amp breaker first. Send us a photo of your old heater's rating plate and we'll tell you.
How does it ship?
By parcel carrier. Freight is calculated to your address — ask us for a delivered price and you'll get one number.
How long does delivery take?
Get in touch for current availability and a realistic date. We'd rather give you a real timeframe than a stock phrase.
How do I maintain it?
Very little. Wipe the casing occasionally, check and restack the stones annually, keep debris from building up around the unit, and let the room air out after each session.
What if something goes wrong?
Call us. We handle warranty claims directly with Harvia rather than handing you a phone number, and Harvia's US parts network is deep — most issues are a part rather than a replacement.
Why doesn't the price show on this page?
Because the heater alone isn't the whole answer — this model needs a controller and stones to work, and freight varies by address. Request pricing and you'll get one delivered figure for the complete setup rather than a number you have to add to.
Why buy from Sauna Republic?
We're an authorized Harvia dealer, so you get the full manufacturer warranty and one point of contact from sizing through installation questions. We'll spec the heater against your actual room rather than a chart, confirm the right controller, and give you the electrical requirements before your electrician quotes.
What's your return policy?
Please review our return policy at thesaunarepublic.com/policies/refund-policy. Because heaters are sized to a specific room and hardwired on installation, talk to us before ordering if you have any questions — we'd much rather get the sizing right up front.

Heritage
Born in the Land of Sauna
Harvia's story began in 1950 in Muurame, Finland, where founder Tapani Harvia started building sauna stoves by hand in the ground floor of his private residence. What began as one person's passion has grown into the world's leading sauna and spa company, with products installed in over 90 countries. Through decades of growth, Harvia has maintained its Finnish roots—still designing and engineering from the land where sauna culture was born.
Innovation
Tradition Meets Technology
Harvia's product range spans from traditional wood-burning stoves to cutting-edge electric heaters with smart home integration. Their Cilindro series revolutionized electric heater design, while the Legend wood-burning stove became an icon of modern sauna aesthetics. Recent innovations include the Xenio digital control system and steam generators that bring commercial spa experiences into private homes.

How Freight Delivery Works
Large items (saunas, cold plunges, hot tubs) ship via LTL freight. Smaller items (heaters, accessories, wellness devices, Lumaflex, red light towers, robes and textiles) ship via UPS, FedEx, or USPS.
1. We ship your order. Tracking is emailed to you with the estimated delivery timeline.
2. The carrier calls you. The freight company calls to schedule your delivery appointment. You pick the date and time window.
3. Curbside delivery. Delivery is to the curb via semi-truck with liftgate (when available). You'll need a plan to move it from the curb to its final location.
4. Sign and inspect. You must be present to sign. Inspect for damage before signing — note any issues on the delivery receipt.
Unloading Your Sauna
The driver delivers to the curb only. You are responsible for moving the product to its final location. Have equipment and help arranged before delivery day.
Rent a forklift— Most common choice. Requires forklift extensions. ~$150–300/day.
Hire a tilt tow truck— Flatbed tow with tilt/slide functionality. ~$200–400.
Hire a rigging/moving crew— Professional movers with equipment. Get quotes in advance.
Tilt tow service (Dundalk only)— Available for $750. Contact us to add to your order.
Clearlight saunas ship in flat panels, not pre-assembled crates. Most can be carried inside by two people without heavy equipment. Dundalk saunas ship in crates exceeding 92" and 800–1,600 lbs — liftgate service is not available for these shipments.
Damage Claims
If your order arrives damaged, we'll get you a replacement as quickly as possible.
1. Inspect packaging for visible damage before signing.
2. Note damage on the delivery receipt — write "damaged" and have the driver sign.
Damage must be reported within 24 hours of delivery with photos. Claims filed after 24 hours may not be eligible for a free replacement. Always note visible damage on the delivery receipt — even if it seems minor.
Carriers & Address Info
We reserve the right to select the carrier for all shipments.
Small items(heaters, accessories, wellness devices, red light towers) — UPS or FedEx
Robes & textiles— FedEx Ground. Street addresses only, no PO Boxes or APO/FPO.

Once large items ship, we cannot change addresses or schedule specific delivery dates. If an item is returned due to an incorrect address, you're responsible for shipping costs both ways. If freight delivery fails because the carrier couldn't access your property, it's treated as a return per our return policy.

Description
The Harvia KIP series has earned the designation of "most popular sauna heater on the planet" for good reason. With over 40 years of production history dating to the 1980s, it offers proven Finnish engineering at an accessible price point.
The KIP80W in black uses an external Xenio controller mounted outside the sauna room, giving you a clean heater design and the flexibility to upgrade to WiFi-enabled controls. The sleek black steel finish complements modern and contemporary sauna interiors.
Dual-wall construction keeps the exterior cool to the touch for added safety, while the large 50 lb stone capacity ensures optimal heat dispersion and satisfying steam when you pour water on the rocks.
Compatible Controllers:
Harvia Xenio CX45 (digital with WiFi)
Harvia Xenio FX45 (digital without WiFi)
Compatible Stones:
Harvia AC3000 (5-10cm) — 1 box required (50 lbs)
Note: We recommend purchasing an additional box of sauna stones to allow you to choose the highest quality stones for fit, form, and function.
